The segment and podcast summary should not be treated as interchangeable accounts of every line Stewart delivered.
Which debate moments did Stewart emphasize?
Harris’s abortion answer
The Guardian’s September 11 recap reports that Stewart praised Harris’s response on abortion, exclaiming, “Holy shit! She crushed that.” That is Stewart’s assessment of the answer, not a neutral measure of debate performance.

The Springfield pet allegation
The debate took place in Philadelphia on September 10. In its recap, TIME describes Trump repeating the unfounded allegation that immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were eating pets. Moderator David Muir challenged the claim by citing local police. The Daily Show’s official description identifies the pet-eating claim as part of Stewart’s discussion; the factual context about the debate comes from TIME, not from the joke itself.
Rally crowds and January 6 accountability
The Guardian says Stewart also highlighted Harris getting under Trump’s skin over rally crowd sizes and criticized Trump’s attempt to deny responsibility for January 6. Stewart’s concluding judgment, as quoted by the Guardian, was: “In any other country, that lack of accountability would be disqualifying.” The Guardian also reports his comparison of Trump’s conduct to a captain abandoning ship, followed by Stewart’s imagined excuse that Trump would say, “I didn’t know anything about it, I was just told to show up for a cruise.” These are Stewart’s satirical arguments, not findings from the debate moderators.

TIME’s September 11 recap places those moments within a broader debate that covered abortion, immigration, the economy, foreign policy, race, the 2020 election, and other exchanges. Stewart’s segment selected moments for comedic and political commentary; it was not a comprehensive debate transcript or an independent fact-check of every claim.
