Harry Belafonte’s vintage Wyler Incaflex Superior wristwatch was reported at auction with a case-back engraving naming Belafonte and “Vic Wyler,” dated “1-3-62.” Julien’s Auctions later reported that the watch sold for $2,925 at its March 26, 2025 auction. The date’s connection to a birthday gift is plausible, but remains an interpretation rather than a verified fact.
What watch was associated with Harry Belafonte?
It was identified as a vintage Wyler Incaflex Superior wristwatch. According to Henry Black’s April 26, 2025 Fratello feature, the original auction listing described a 31 mm case made of 10K gold-filled material. The feature describes a diamond-pattern dial, date window, gold markers and a worn original strap.
Fratello attributes the watch’s discovery and purchase to collector Billy Denty. Denty said he came across it at auction and bought it as a memento connected to his parents and Belafonte’s music. He described Belafonte as “the soundtrack of my childhood summers” and the watch as a reminder of “the love and laughter I shared with my parents while growing up.” Read Fratello’s account.
What does the case-back inscription say?
Fratello reports that the case back is engraved “Harry Belafonte from Vic Wyler” and “1-3-62.” Those words and numbers are the reported inscription; they do not, by themselves, establish when or why the watch was given.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Because the date may correspond to Belafonte’s birthday, the feature suggests that the watch could have been a birthday gift. That explanation is an inference, not an independently verified account of the watch’s presentation or provenance. A separate collector-authored account also supports a gift narrative, but does not independently authenticate the watch or establish the circumstances of the gift.
How much did the watch sell for?
Julien’s Auctions reported a sale price of $2,925 for the Wyler Incaflex Superior Wrist Watch in its March 26, 2025 Harry Belafonte: A Man of Action Part II auction. That is a completed historical auction result, not a current asking price or an estimate of what the watch is worth today. Julien’s also reported that all 258 lots in that auction sold; that figure describes the auction’s lots, not demand for watches generally. See Julien’s auction recap.

Who owns the watch now?
Fratello identified Denty as the owner when its feature was published on April 26, 2025. The available reporting does not establish who owns the watch now, or whether it changed hands after that account. The Julien’s result confirms the reported auction sale, but does not establish present ownership.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is known—and not established—about the watch’s history?
Fratello’s account says brothers Paul and Victor Wyler founded the Paul Wyler & Cie watchmaking factory in Basel in 1924, and that Wyler patented its flexible, shock-absorbing Incaflex balance in 1927. The feature also recounts a 1931 Eiffel Tower demonstration. These details provide brand context, but the cited reporting is not an archival verification of the company history or demonstration.

The coverage is not a condition report or independent authentication. The reported inscription, auction description and collector’s account are useful provenance clues, but they do not amount to a documented chain of custody or a specialist’s assessment of authenticity and condition. The $2,925 result is a single sale, not a comparable-sales study or a current valuation.
