Lauren Lancaster, Amazon MGM Studios’ Head of US SVOD TV Development and Series–Co-Productions, said the show’s audience response had been “phenomenal.” The announcement did not identify a specific viewing figure or renewal threshold, so the reported streaming numbers provide context rather than proof of a particular decision formula.
What is the latest Season 2 production update?
Connelly’s official Ballard series page posted an update dated March 30, 2026: “Back in action. Ballard S2 is officially in production.” The page also lists casting updates from March 9, 10, and 12, 2026.

The page gives no premiere date. Production being underway is not the same as a confirmed release window; Prime Video has not provided a date in the cited renewal announcement.
How successful was Ballard on streaming?
Secondary coverage relaying figures attributed to Nielsen reported that Ballard accumulated 2.5 billion minutes viewed in the United States from its July 9, 2025, release through the end of that month. The same reporting said the show drew 619 million U.S. minutes for the week of July 21, 2025, placing it No. 4 among streaming originals that week.
These are historical figures, not current viewership. Nielsen’s Top 10 methodology says its streaming rankings are based on total minutes viewed by U.S. persons age two and older. The figures were relayed through Deadline and quoted in TV Series Finale’s October 2025 report; they were not stated in Prime Video’s renewal announcement. They support describing the series as a streaming success, but do not establish that those metrics alone led to the renewal.
What is Ballard about, and where can you watch it?
Ballard follows Renée Ballard, an LAPD homicide detective assigned to investigate cold cases. Harry Bosch, played by Titus Welliver, assists her. The story connects to the Bosch television universe, while centering on Ballard and the Cold Case Unit rather than Bosch’s investigations.

In The Waiting, Ballard and Bosch work cases involving a familial DNA link to a serial rapist and murderer. The story also involves the theft of Ballard’s badge, gun, and identification, as well as a new volunteer whose motives are separate from the case. Connelly lists paperback, Kindle, and audiobook editions on the book page.
