About a week after the engagement announcement, Brown said he had rescinded the proposal and wanted to be single.
How Big Ed said the courtship began
TMZ reported on September 16, 2024, that Brown met Raemond, then 29, at a fan meet-and-greet at Capriotti’s, a sandwich shop in Plantation, Florida. Brown said he proposed within 24 hours of their first meeting. The account of their private meeting and proposal comes from Brown’s statements in contemporaneous coverage.
According to Us Weekly’s September 20 summary of Brown’s interview with Page Six, he invited Raemond to dinner the following day at YOLO restaurant in Fort Lauderdale. He said he got down on one knee as diners and staff reacted, and proposed marriage. Us Weekly reported that Brown said Raemond accepted and they hugged and kissed.
The proposal and improvised ring
TMZ reported that Brown made a ring from a paperclip provided by the restaurant manager. Us Weekly also described the ring as improvised from a paperclip. The detail was part of the reported proposal story, not evidence that the couple had made longer-term wedding plans.

Why the engagement ended
On September 23, TMZ reported that Brown had rescinded the proposal after reflecting and speaking with people close to him. He described it as a “very impulsive moment,” said he realized he was “rushing into this decision,” and said he wanted to be single. TMZ reported that Brown confirmed he and Raemond were no longer together.
So, the engagement was announced, but it did not remain active: Brown said he proposed within 24 hours of meeting Raemond, then called off the proposal about a week after the announcement. The reports cited here do not establish whether the two reconciled or what their relationship status became after September 2024.
