Alice in Chains drummer Sean Kinney said on May 15, 2025, that he expected to be fine after a medical emergency led the band to cancel its May performances. He did not disclose his condition. The latest authoritative health information located for this article is that 2025 statement; it does not establish his current health in October 2026.
What happened to Sean Kinney?
On May 8, 2025, after soundcheck at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, Kinney experienced what Alice in Chains described as a “non-life-threatening medical emergency.” The band canceled that night’s performance. The Los Angeles Times reported that the band later canceled its remaining May headline and festival appearances, including Sonic Temple and Welcome to Rockville.
In its announcement, the band said it made the decision after careful consideration and medical advice, and described Kinney’s long-term prognosis as positive. The band also said, “While we were all eager to return to the stage, Sean’s health is our top priority at this moment.” Those were the band’s public descriptions, not a diagnosis.
What did Kinney say about his health?
In a personal update shared through the band’s social media on May 15, Kinney apologized to fans whose travel and plans were affected, and said doctors had advised him not to play in the short term. He acknowledged fans’ concern but chose not to make his health issues public, according to 98 Rock / ABC Audio’s report.
