Yes—Google Maps once let visitors step from a blue police-box replica on Earl’s Court Road in London into a navigable 360-degree panorama of the Doctor Who TARDIS control room. The Street View Easter egg was reported on August 13, 2013. It was a limited virtual interior, not a full tour of the TARDIS, and its availability today is not established.
What the Google Maps TARDIS Easter egg showed
This was a Street View transition, not a joke in search results or a standard map marker. From the street, users saw a blue police-box replica. A special navigation hotspot then opened a panorama of the TARDIS control room. Contemporary coverage described the view as interactive: visitors could look around and follow available navigation points. TechCrunch’s August 13, 2013 report explains the original feature and how it behaved.
The contrast was the point. The small box opened onto a much larger interior, echoing Doctor Who’s famous “bigger on the inside” idea.
Where it appeared
The entrance was associated with a police-box replica on Earl’s Court Road in London, near Earl’s Court Road Underground Station. The physical box and the digital panorama are separate things: the exterior was a real-world object, while the interior was Street View imagery. The available reporting does not establish that the box contained a real TARDIS interior, was an official Doctor Who set, or was a BBC attraction. The Mary Sue’s 2013 coverage and The Geek Twins’ account identify the London location.

How the original Street View entrance worked
These are historical desktop instructions for the 2013 Maps interface, not a guaranteed method in today’s Google Maps.
- Open Google Maps and enter Street View near the blue police box on Earl’s Court Road.
- Move the cursor around until the Street View navigation arrows appear.
- Look for the unusual double-arrow control pointing toward the box.
- Click that control to transition into the TARDIS panorama.
- Drag the view to look around, zoom, and follow any available Street View navigation points.
TechCrunch noted that the special arrows could be missing for users on the newer Maps interface at the time. Its period workaround was to press the keyboard’s up-arrow key or try Chrome Incognito to return to an older Maps experience. Those suggestions belong to that interface and are not confirmed fixes for current Maps.

What visitors could explore inside
The panorama offered a look around the control room, including its switches and design details. Contemporary descriptions also mention moving down toward the central area known as the “heart of the TARDIS.” The reported navigation was limited: there is no confirmation that users could roam a network of corridors or visit all the rooms of the fictional spacecraft. Tulsa Marketing Online’s 2014 account likewise describes only limited depth.
Does the TARDIS Easter egg still work?
Its historical existence is documented, but the available evidence does not establish that the special entrance still works in Google Maps. The original reports are from 2013, and even then the newer Maps interface could interfere with the arrows. Current imagery, navigation controls, and the panorama itself may differ; the old instructions should not be treated as proof of present-day access.

If you want to check, use desktop Street View to inspect the Earl’s Court Road location and the date of the imagery. If the box appears but no special transition is available, that confirms only that the exterior is visible in that imagery—not that the Easter egg remains active. If neither the relevant view nor entrance is available, contemporary coverage preserves how the feature worked; it does not demonstrate current functionality. The historical reports do not verify equivalent behavior in today’s mobile apps.

The Easter egg turned a familiar Street View action into a compact Doctor Who joke: approach a police box on an ordinary London street and find an unexpectedly expansive control room inside. Contemporary coverage associated the feature with the show’s 50th-anniversary period, although the available reporting does not establish that Google officially announced the anniversary as its purpose. The Geek Twins’ retrospective presents that anniversary context as part of its account.
