OnlyFans briefly became reachable from some mainland Chinese networks in late November 2024, but the access window ended within days or weeks. CNN reported by December 13 that the site was inaccessible again, and later GreatFire records list OnlyFans URLs as blocked. There is no verified evidence of a permanent or officially announced mainland-China unblocking.
What happened in late 2024?
In late November 2024, users reported that OnlyFans loaded from mainland China without a VPN. CNN said it independently confirmed access during the brief window. By December 13, CNN reported that the site was no longer accessible. CNN’s report, published by KESQ, describes observed access—not a formal government announcement.
The reporting does not establish that every mainland internet provider allowed access, or that every part of the service worked. It does not confirm that people could consistently register, log in, stream media, subscribe, message creators, or withdraw creator earnings. “Unblocked” in this context means temporarily reachable for some users, not officially approved or launched in China.
Is OnlyFans accessible in mainland China now?
The available evidence points to OnlyFans being blocked again on ordinary mainland internet connections, though it is not a live, nationwide test. GreatFire’s censorship database recorded onlyfans.com/about as blocked in February 2022 and onlyfans.com/onlyfans as blocked in August 2025. Those are records for specific URLs and dates; they do not guarantee that every network, location, or platform endpoint behaves identically today.

Access can vary by internet provider, city, mobile or fixed-line connection, and the domain or media server being requested. A report that the site works for one person is a network-specific observation, not proof that OnlyFans is generally available across mainland China. Measurement guidance from OONI also cautions that results can vary across networks and that a single anomalous result does not necessarily confirm censorship.
What “working” means: access is not a full service
A homepage loading is only the first of several separate tests. A service can be partly reachable while key functions fail. For a user or creator, the distinction matters because browsing access does not establish that the platform is usable as a subscription or income channel.

| Test | What it establishes—and what it does not |
|---|---|
| Homepage loads | The landing page responds on that connection; it does not prove that accounts or media work. |
| Registration or login succeeds | An account flow is reachable; it does not establish ongoing access or payment eligibility. |
| Creator pages and media load | Some content endpoints work; separate media hosts or delivery networks may still fail. |
| Subscription payment is accepted | A payment was authorized for that transaction; it does not establish local payment support or recurring billing. |
| Creator can withdraw earnings | A payout route worked for that account; it does not establish broad eligibility, legal compliance, or reliable future payouts. |
| Access is repeatable | The service worked across specified dates and networks; a one-time opening is not sustained availability. |
Why might access have appeared and then disappeared?
No authoritative source identified a cause for the late-2024 access window. A temporary filtering-list change, DNS or routing change, incomplete blocking, or a short-lived enforcement gap are possible explanations, but none is established. Social-media jokes that connected the opening to jobs or the economy are not evidence of government intent.
China’s filtering environment is not a single static blacklist. The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission describes the Great Firewall as blocking or throttling foreign sites and documents efforts to disrupt unapproved circumvention tools. Its report on censorship practices helps explain why reachability may change without a public announcement, and why one connection can behave differently from another.

Mainland China is not Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan
This article concerns mainland China. Access conditions in Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan may differ, as may those on hotel or corporate networks and international roaming connections. A foreign SIM or roaming route that reaches OnlyFans does not demonstrate that it is available over ordinary mainland internet service. The CNN report was filed from Hong Kong, but its reported access event concerned mainland China.
Does the brief opening mean OnlyFans launched in China?
No evidence in the available reporting establishes an official mainland-China launch, local licensing arrangement, or OnlyFans announcement. Temporary technical reachability is different from market entry, regulatory authorization, or commercial support. The late-2024 reports do not establish China-specific onboarding, customer service, payment processing, creator payouts, or tax arrangements.

That distinction is especially important for creators. A potential audience is not a usable market if users cannot register, pay repeatedly, stream content reliably, or resolve billing issues—and creators cannot receive funds through an eligible, lawful payout route. The available information does not verify a current mainland-China payment method for OnlyFans, so compatibility with domestic cards, Alipay, WeChat Pay, or other local wallets should not be assumed.

Chinese law restricts online dissemination of obscene or pornographic information. The Cybersecurity Law text published by China’s State Administration for Market Regulation states that individuals and organizations must not use the internet to disseminate such information. A later version published by the Cyberspace Administration of China addresses prohibited online information, measures against its spread from abroad, and penalties for network operators that fail to take required measures. These provisions do not by themselves settle the legal status of every act or personal situation. Creating, selling, distributing, or promoting explicit material can carry greater exposure than simply encountering a webpage. Anyone considering commercial activity should obtain qualified local legal advice; technical access does not create legal permission.
Some users try VPNs or proxies, but they are not a guaranteed fix. Connections can be disrupted, and a VPN may not solve blocked media endpoints, account verification, or payment failures. It also introduces an intermediary that may handle traffic or account-related data. The U.S.-China commission report describes efforts to disrupt unapproved circumvention tools; users should consider legal, security, and reliability risks rather than treating a VPN as proof of lawful or dependable access.
How to assess a current access report
When someone says OnlyFans is “unblocked,” look for details that make the claim testable. A useful report identifies:
- Location: mainland China, rather than Hong Kong or another region.
- Connection: provider and mobile or fixed-line service, with roaming identified.
- Circumvention: whether the test used a VPN, proxy, Tor, or similar service.
- Date and time: access conditions can change.
- Scope: whether the homepage, login, creator pages, media, and payment flow were each tested.
- Repeatability: whether the result held on more than one network or occasion.
A failed page can reflect a network issue rather than a confirmed block, while a successful homepage can coexist with failures elsewhere. A censorship database entry is also a dated result for a particular URL, not a guarantee about every endpoint at the present moment.
