Its Netflix availability depends on the country: the June 2025 story concerned the UK, while the U.S. listing checked on July 31, 2026, did not include Netflix. The claim that it is Washington’s best sequel is a matter of taste, though audience ratings for the film are strong.
Is The Equalizer 3 on Netflix?
It depends on where you live. Netflix has an official page for The Equalizer 3, but a title page alone does not confirm that the film is playable in every country. The original Netflix-arrival story was UK-focused and referred to the film’s earlier run on Sky Cinema via NOW. Streaming rights and catalogs vary by territory, so search for the title in your own Netflix account before subscribing or planning a watch.

For U.S. viewers, the JustWatch U.S. listing, checked July 31, 2026, did not show Netflix among the available streaming options. It listed Hulu, fuboTV, HBO Max-related channels, FXNow and YouTube TV, as well as digital rental and purchase. The listing displayed a $14.99 Fandango At Home purchase option when checked; confirm current availability and price with the vendor before buying.
The headline’s “new” referred to a streaming-catalog arrival, not a new production. The Equalizer 3 opened theatrically in the United States on September 1, 2023. The June 15, 2025 article also noted that Gladiator II was a newer Washington film at that time.
#1 Best Overall
- Denzel Washington is Robert McCall, an ex-assassin with a mysterious past, who returns to action to serve vengeance for the exploited and oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends? protector by taking on the mafia.
Is it really Washington’s best sequel?
There is no official “best sequel” designation, and the phrase can mean the best film in the Equalizer trilogy or Washington’s best sequel role across his career. The most persuasive case for the third film is its audience response, not an objective ranking.
| Measure | The Equalizer 3 | What it indicates |
|---|---|---|
| Rotten Tomatoes critics | 76% from 167 reviews | A generally positive critical response, not universal acclaim. |
| Rotten Tomatoes verified audience | 94% from more than 2,500 ratings | A strong audience response; scores can change over time. |
| IMDb | 6.8/10 from approximately 164,000 ratings | A positive but more measured overall user rating. |
For context, Rotten Tomatoes lists critics’ scores of 61% for The Equalizer and 77% for The Equalizer 2. Those are critic scores, not audience scores, so they should not be mixed with the third film’s 94% verified audience rating. The third film’s score supports calling it a fan favorite in the series, but whether it is the best depends on what a viewer values.

What is The Equalizer 3 about?
Robert McCall has left his government-assassin life behind and settled in southern Italy. As he grows close to people in a coastal community, he finds that local residents are being intimidated and exploited by organized crime. McCall steps back into his violent vigilante role to protect them. The result is a crime thriller built around a familiar protector-versus-bullies premise, with a distinctly Italian setting.
Cast, crew and viewing details

- Denzel Washington is Robert McCall, an ex-assassin with a mysterious past, who returns to action to serve vengeance for the exploited and oppressed. Witness his transformation from a solitary avenger to an unstoppable force, fighting ruthless adversaries from Russian gangsters to the Italian mafia in this heart-pounding 3-movie collection of action, justice, and redemption.
What works—and what may not
Washington’s controlled performance suits a character who often communicates more through stillness and timing than exposition. The Italian setting gives this installment a different atmosphere from the earlier films, and its straightforward premise lets the story move quickly toward McCall’s intervention. The action relies on anticipation and methodical escalation as much as spectacle.
That same clarity can feel familiar. The critics’ consensus on Rotten Tomatoes praises the cathartic action while noting the formulaic story. For viewers who enjoy Washington’s measured presence and forceful payback, the established pattern is part of the appeal; anyone looking for a surprising plot or a nonviolent character study may find less to engage with.

Best Value
- Triple bill of action thrillers starring Denzel Washington.
Rank #4
Who should watch it?
- Good fit: Viewers after a compact, violent vigilante thriller, Washington fans, and anyone who liked the first two Equalizer films.
- Consider something else: Viewers who dislike graphic brutality, want a family film, or expect an unusually original revenge plot.
- New to the series: The central conflict is easy to follow on its own; the first two movies add context to McCall’s character and history.
