In his December 18, 2025 year-end monologue, Jimmy Kimmel joked that Donald Trump’s primetime end-of-year address had been “18 straight minutes of him yelling.” The line was Kimmel’s comic description of the speech’s delivery, not a separately measured finding.
What did Kimmel say?
Kimmel was responding to Trump’s December 18 primetime address. Introducing it, he said, “The president offered his end-of-year message last night in prime time.” Kimmel then described Trump as shouting and racing through the script before delivering the punchline: “It was 18 straight minutes of him yelling.” The Guardian’s December 19 report covered the monologue and quoted the line.

Why did he call it 18 minutes of yelling?
Kimmel framed the remark as a joke about the address’s pace and delivery. In the episode transcript, he said Trump had limited time, went “a mile a minute,” and was “shouting” and “racing through the script.” He also joked that the address interrupted the season finale of Survivor. The “18 straight minutes” wording is Kimmel’s characterization; the reporting does not establish it as a technical measurement of how long Trump shouted. The episode transcript is available in a third-party Dailymotion repost, not an official ABC transcript.
Was Kimmel fact-checking the speech?
No. Kimmel also called the speech’s message “insane” and joked that it contained “so many lies,” but those remarks are part of his political comedy. The cited coverage and transcript establish what he said; they do not independently verify every claim in Trump’s address or constitute a comprehensive fact-check.
