Cars: Lightning Racers is scheduled to debut on Disney Jr. in 2027, followed by Disney+. Owen Wilson returns as Lightning McQueen, and Larry the Cable Guy returns as Mater. Disney has announced the year and release sequence, but not an exact premiere date.
When does Cars: Lightning Racers come out?
Disney announced an intended 2027 debut on Disney Jr., with the series to arrive on Disney+ afterward. The announcement does not give a month or day, episode count, or country-by-country rollout, so 2027 is the only confirmed timing detail. The Walt Disney Company’s August 8, 2025 announcement is the source for the schedule.
What is the series about?
Lightning McQueen sets off on new adventures in Radiator Springs with Mater and two new characters: Pipes, a thrill-seeking drag car, and Miles, a mud-loving monster truck. Disney describes the show as a new addition to the Cars franchise; it has not announced a longer episode-by-episode synopsis. The official announcement provides the premise and character descriptions.
Which familiar voices are returning?
Owen Wilson returns as Lightning McQueen and Larry the Cable Guy as Mater. Disney’s announcement also lists Tony Shalhoub as Luigi, Cheech Marin as Ramone, Bob Peterson as Chick Hicks, John Ratzenberger as Mack, Leah Lewis as Pipes, Yuri Lowenthal as Miles, and Sheryl Lee Ralph as Ms. Blinker. The announcement identifies the cast but does not state how many episodes each performer appears in.

Who is making Cars: Lightning Racers?
Disney Television Animation is producing the series in association with Pixar. The announced creative team includes executive producers Travis Braun and Frank Montagna, story editor Dana Starfield, and supervising director Nathan Chew. These credits come from Disney’s series announcement.
Where does it fit in the Cars franchise?
The series joins a franchise that already includes three feature films, shorts, and the 2022 Disney+ series Cars on the Road. Disney+’s September 1, 2026 franchise guide places those titles in the broader Cars universe; it is viewing context, not confirmation that Lightning Racers is currently streaming. The guide notes that the original Cars premiered in 2006, introducing Lightning McQueen after he becomes stranded in Radiator Springs and meets Mater, Sally, Doc Hudson, and the town’s other residents.
