Full answers for June 29, 2024

  • Yellow — HOMOPHONES: TO, TOO, TUE, TWO
  • Green — CONNECT: COUPLE, TIE, UNITE, WED
  • Blue — PLACED DOWN: LAID, PLACED, PUT, SAT
  • Purple — ___FLOWER: MAY, SUN, WALL, WILD

Why the word set can mislead

TO, TOO, TUE, and TWO can suggest a weekday-related pattern: TUE abbreviates Tuesday, while the other entries resemble “two” or “to.” The intended link is sound: they are pronounced alike or nearly alike in standard English. Some community commenters mentioned being drawn toward a days-of-the-week grouping, an anecdotal example of the red herring rather than a measure of how all players solved the puzzle.

How Connections works

The New York Times Help Center says each puzzle asks players to find four groups of four words with a shared connection. It describes the game as intentionally tricky because words may appear to fit more than one category. The daily game is released at midnight in the player’s timezone. The Help Center also says the archive includes puzzles dating to June 12, 2023, for eligible All Access and Games subscribers; archive play affects some puzzle statistics, but not current or maximum streaks. Access terms can change, so check the NYT Connections Help Center for current details.
