America Amended is a six-episode docuseries hosted by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Trymaine Lee. The Root and Watering Hole Media say it will explore constitutional amendments through Black Americans’ experiences and premiere on The Root’s YouTube channel. The announcement, published October 7, 2026, does not give a premiere date or release schedule.
What is America Amended about?
The series examines constitutional amendments through the lived experiences of Black Americans. Its announced focus connects the Constitution’s changes to questions of rights, power and the country’s promises; specific episode subjects have not been announced.
In a separate October 6, 2026 article reflecting on The Root’s first year under Watering Hole Media, publisher Ashley Allison described the project as “rigorous storytelling that puts Black Americans at the center of the debate over this country’s promises and its future.” That is Allison’s characterization of the project, not a description of any particular episode.

When does America Amended premiere, and where can you watch it?
The announced destination is The Root’s YouTube channel. The October 7, 2026 announcement does not state when the series premieres or how its six episodes will be released. It also does not specify regional availability, captions or transcripts. No paid subscription or special hardware requirement is identified in the announcement.
Why amendments matter to the series’ subject
The National Archives Foundation’s Amending America exhibit states that 27 of more than 11,000 proposed amendments were ratified, according to the Foundation’s 2016 exhibit. The figure is historical exhibit copy, not a newly updated count. The exhibit also explains that amendments have reshaped fundamental rights, legal powers and government structure, while expanding voting participation.
