In June 2024, he acknowledged exchanging messages with a minor through Twitch Whispers in 2017 and said some conversations became inappropriate. The reveal prompted Midnight Society to end its relationship with him and YouTube to suspend monetization on his channel. What former employees reportedly alleged, what Beahm said himself, and what organizations did are distinct parts of the story.
Why was Dr Disrespect banned from Twitch?
Twitch banned Guy Beahm, the streamer known as Dr Disrespect, in 2020. The platform’s underlying reasons and evidence were not publicly set out in the coverage of the June 2024 reveal. The Washington Post and Game Developer reported on the dispute and subsequent statements, but the reviewed public record does not include Twitch’s internal decision record or the underlying messages.
In June 2024, former Twitch employees’ accounts revived questions about the ban. Reporting attributed to those sources alleged that messages were sent to a minor through Twitch’s Whispers feature in 2017 and described a reported attempt to arrange a meeting at TwitchCon. Those are allegations reported from former employees, not independently established details in the available public material.
What Beahm acknowledged—and what he denied
On June 25, 2024, Beahm acknowledged that he had exchanged Twitch Whispers messages with a minor in 2017. He characterized the conversations as casual and mutual, while saying they sometimes became inappropriate. In his public statement that day, he wrote: “These were casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate, but nothing more.” The Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post reported his account.
