In the March 18, 2026 interview, Paul said the headlines were difficult to see while she was promoting The Bachelorette. “It’s been a heavy time to see the headlines, especially during this time of ‘The Bachelorette’ being released,” she told Lara Spencer. “It’s supposed to be a really exciting time.”
She added: “I’m a person that will always speak my truth. That’s what I’m known for. What happened in the 2023 case
Paul was arrested and charged in connection with a February 2023 incident involving her then-partner, Dakota Mortensen. ABC News reported charges of aggravated assault, two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, misdemeanor child abuse and criminal mischief. An arrest and charges are not, by themselves, a finding of guilt.

In August 2023, Paul entered a plea in abeyance to one felony aggravated-assault count. Under the agreement, that count could be reduced to a misdemeanor after three years if she complied with its terms; the other charges were dismissed. The Associated Press later described the agreement as requiring her to stay out of legal trouble during a three-year probationary period ending in August 2026. At the time of Paul’s March 18 interview, Draper police described an open domestic-assault investigation involving Paul and Mortensen and said allegations had been made in both directions. The department said it would not release details while the investigation was active. That was separate from the 2023 Herriman case, and it is a time-specific account—not the latest charging decision. Why ABC did not air her season of The Bachelorette
ABC announced on March 19, 2026, that it would not move forward with Paul’s filmed season, which had been scheduled to premiere March 22. A Disney Entertainment Television spokesperson said the decision followed the newly released video of the 2023 incident and that the network’s focus was on supporting the family. The cancellation was an entertainment-programming decision, separate from the legal outcomes. ABC News

What is known about the 2023 video’s release
KSL reported that TMZ requested cellphone footage from Herriman Police on March 17, 2026, and the department responded on March 23—after TMZ had published the video. KSL also reported that Herriman Police did not initially release the footage through the public-records request, and that the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office and Utah Court System confirmed that neither had released it.
