What Halsey said in her first post
On June 4, 2024, Halsey announced the song “The End” and wrote on Instagram, “Long story short, I’m lucky to be alive,” according to the Associated Press. The post described a private health battle but did not identify a condition. A contemporaneous Sky News report also noted that the initial post did not disclose a diagnosis.
Which diagnoses did Halsey disclose?
On June 5, 2024, Halsey clarified that she had been diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder, beginning in 2022. Good Morning America reported her statement. These are the terms she disclosed; the public statements cited here do not establish further details about her individual medical records.
What she said about her health in June 2024
In her June 5 statement, Halsey said the conditions were “currently being managed or in remission” and that she would likely have them for the duration of her life. She also said that after a rocky start, she had gradually got things under control with help from doctors and was feeling better after two years. Those words describe her reported health status at that time, not a current medical assessment.

What the illness disclosure had to do with her music
Halsey announced “The End” alongside her June 4 disclosure and framed the song as the beginning of an album project, the Associated Press reported. In an October 25, 2024 review, the AP described The Great Impersonator as chronicling the period of illness and survival. The music was part of how she chose to share the experience publicly.
What later reporting does—and does not—establish
A September 29, 2025 report by Los40 said Halsey had recently described having a couple of chemotherapy sessions and a new port while expressing excitement about tour rehearsals. That is a limited update reported at that date. It does not, on its own, establish her full medical status in October 2026, whether she is currently receiving treatment, or whether either condition is currently in remission. The available statements also do not justify relabeling the rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder as leukemia or making a broader claim about cancer in Halsey’s case.
