What happens in the NCIS season finale?
“Black Sky,” the Season 20 finale, aired May 22, 2023. Torres goes undercover in prison to get information from Yuri Valkov, while the rest of the NCIS team investigates a suspected plot by Yuri’s father, Kostya. TV Insider’s recap and TVLine’s recap describe the episode’s two threads: a race to stop a cyberattack and the personal cliffhanger that changes Torres’s focus.
Why is Torres undercover in prison?
Torres enters the prison under the name Manny Delgado to question Yuri about the attack. But Yuri suspects an undercover agent is close, putting Torres’s cover at risk. When Torres is challenged about his background, Kasie helps him maintain the disguise.
Outside the prison, the team negotiates with Russian spy Evelyn, who provides limited but urgent information. McGee deciphers Yuri’s coded messages and identifies the U.S. power grid as the target. Yuri is killed by men close to him; the agents conclude that Kostya wanted to stop his son from disclosing the operation.
