La leyenda del Charro Negro no tiene una única versión: cambian el lugar, los sucesos y la explicación de la aparición. La página educativa de la Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) recoge una historia ambientada en Jiquipilco, mientras que un artículo secundario resume variantes relacionadas con monedas, codicia y deudas sobrenaturales. No fue posible confirmar qué documento corresponde al PDF titulado “La Leyenda del Charro Negro | PDF | Ocio” ni qué relato contiene.
La versión de Jiquipilco que cuenta la SEP
En “La curva del charro negro”, relato publicado por la SEP en su página educativa Historias de leyenda el 6 de febrero de 2025, el Charro aparece de noche en una curva de Jiquipilco y llega hasta la Presidencia. Allí hace escándalo y arroja papeles.
Un vecino decide esperarlo armado con una espada. Intenta herirlo, pero termina desmayado; después de ese encuentro, el Charro deja de aparecer. El relato explica que la curva recibió el nombre de “Curva del Charro negro”. La SEP la clasifica como una leyenda toponímica: una historia que explica el nombre de un lugar.
Las monedas y otras variantes no son el mismo relato
Un artículo de Jaime Marquez publicado en Sobre Leyendas el 8 de octubre de 2012 describe motivos que aparecen en varias versiones: un hombre fantasmal vestido de charro negro y un caballo también negro. En algunos relatos, el personaje ofrece una bolsa de monedas; aceptarla conduce a un castigo, motivo que el artículo interpreta como una advertencia contra la avaricia. También menciona historias asociadas con Veracruz, Hidalgo, Puebla y Tlaxcala, así como una deuda sobrenatural en Pachuca y una aparición urbana en Puebla.

Esos motivos pertenecen a variantes resumidas por Marquez, no a la narración de Jiquipilco de la SEP. No deben juntarse como si fueran episodios de una sola versión establecida. El artículo puede leerse en “El Charro Negro, una leyenda mexicana”.
En qué se diferencian las dos fuentes

Por qué existen varias versiones
La SEP explica que las leyendas se transmiten principalmente de forma oral y pueden mezclar elementos reales e imaginarios. También advierte que cambian según el lugar y la época: “Las leyendas no tienen una versión definitiva, pues es posible que las vuelvas a escuchar en lugares y épocas diferentes, y con variaciones.” Esa idea ayuda a entender por qué circulan relatos distintos del Charro Negro; no significa que todas las versiones compartan los mismos personajes, motivos o desenlaces.

La página de la SEP atribuye a Arnold van Gennep esta definición: “Las leyendas son relatos que hablan de personajes y sucesos que alcanzan resonancia en una comunidad. Se transmiten de generación en generación, mayormente de manera oral.” La página no proporciona junto a la cita la referencia bibliográfica completa ni el año de publicación original.

El documento exacto indicado por el título “La Leyenda del Charro Negro | PDF | Ocio” no quedó identificado. Por eso no es posible confirmar un enlace de descarga, el contenido del archivo ni si reproduce la versión de Jiquipilco o alguna variante con monedas. Los relatos de la SEP y Sobre Leyendas son fuentes distintas; sus páginas no verifican qué texto contiene ese PDF.
