The launch announcement also highlighted personalized recommendations, proactive recording and a Remote Finder button. Eastlink’s current TiVo Stream service includes a mobile app and cloud DVR, but it remains tied to Eastlink TV service and a TiVo set-top box.
What Eastlink announced in 2020
In a September 2, 2020 release from Halifax, Eastlink said customers had access to its new TiVo-powered TV experience. The company framed the change around a familiar problem: choosing something to watch from a large range of options. CEO Deborah Shaffner said the system could search by a show’s name, an actor, or even a line from a movie. These were Eastlink’s descriptions of the launch features, not independently tested performance results. Eastlink’s launch announcement
How the launch features were supposed to help viewers
Voice search across several sources
Eastlink said voice search could find programming on live TV, among on-demand titles and recordings, and on Netflix and Amazon Prime. That description did not mean voice control worked the same way inside every streaming app: Eastlink support says voice control does not work within apps such as YouTube and Netflix. Voice control also requires the remote to be in RF mode and paired with the specific receiver. Eastlink TiVo support
Recommendations and proactive recording
The launch release said the experience would offer recommendations based on viewing preferences and proactively record programming. Eastlink presented these as part of its effort to personalize TV viewing; the announcement did not provide measured results showing how recommendations or recording performed for customers.

Can you use TiVo Stream without an Eastlink box?
No. Eastlink says mobile-app users must subscribe to Eastlink TiVo Stream TV and have at least one TiVo set-top box. The service is therefore not a universal standalone streaming device or an app that replaces an Eastlink TV subscription. What you can watch also depends on your service address, subscribed channels and add-ons; some movies vary by region. Eastlink TiVo Stream
Eastlink’s user guide says the TiVo Stream DVR is powered by Android TV and receives television signals through a wired or wireless connection to the home network. If that network connection is down, the DVR cannot be used to watch the service. Streaming apps and Eastlink on-demand content are delivered by their respective sources.
