Why the words fit
Images Seen on the Street
GRAFFITI, MURAL, POSTER and STENCIL are forms of visual material encountered on streets or public surfaces.
Retro Dance Crazes
HUSTLE, MASHED POTATO, ROBOT and TWIST are dance styles associated with earlier popular culture.
#1 Best Overall
Silent “P”
The P is not pronounced in CORPS, COUP, PSYCHO or RECEIPT. CORPS is pronounced “core,” not “corpse.”
___ Mark
BEAUTY, CHECK, QUESTION and STRETCH each complete a familiar phrase: beauty mark, check mark, question mark and stretch mark.
Rank #2
A note on the final group
Parade lists CHEEK in the last group, but TechRadar and Forbes give CHECK, which completes “check mark.” The answer here is CHECK.

Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four based on shared links. Forbes contributor Erik Kain describes the goal as finding “links between four pairs of four” within the 16 words. The game format is also discussed in the 2024 paper “NYT-Connections: A Deceptively Simple Text Classification Task that Stumps System-1 Thinkers.”
