What the documentary is about
The film follows Priest Da Nomad, the stage name of Larry Ware II, and uses his story to explore Washington’s U Street hip-hop and arts subculture. Its subjects include the forces of politics and crime, Black cultural influence, and Go-Go, the sound central to generations of D.C. identity. The official film website frames the project around the place of hip-hop outsiders in the D.C. region and the relationship between the city’s rap scene and Go-Go.
The District of Columbia’s Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment described the documentary as using Ware’s personal journey to bring attention to an under-recognized D.C. cultural scene. The city announced a D.C. premiere for June 6, 2025, at the Angelika Pop-Up Theatre in Union Market. Read the District’s announcement.
