Francis Ford Coppola’s best-documented home is the historic Inglenook estate in Napa Valley, which his family acquired in stages beginning around 1975. Older profiles also reported holdings in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Belize, but they are dated snapshots—not proof of what he owns today. The record also includes an office, a hotel apartment, winery buildings and hospitality businesses, so not every property described as his was a private house.
Inglenook: the Napa Valley home acquired in stages
The clearest through-line in accounts of Coppola’s homes is the Niebaum estate, now associated with Inglenook, in Napa Valley. In a 1997 Los Angeles Times account, Coppola said he moved his family there around 1975. He described the first purchase as “the home part and the land, not including the business,” a distinction that helps explain why later accounts treat the residence and winery as related but separate parts of the story.
In a 2020 Forbes interview, Coppola recalled that he had been looking for a modest summer cottage in Napa and instead bought the Niebaum estate. He remembered the initial purchase as including about 100 acres of vineyards. That is his retrospective figure for the purchase, not a measurement of the estate or vineyard today.
The Inglenook Chateau and reunited estate
Coppola told Mansion Global in 2025, “The Inglenook Chateau was completed in 1887.” He said his family acquired the parcel containing the original chateau in 1995 and also completed the reunification of the estate’s original vineyards.

Mansion Global described the estate at the time of that interview as 1,700 acres, including a 235-acre vineyard. Those figures refer to the estate and vineyard, not the residential grounds or the size of a house. A 1988 Los Angeles Times report had also described a 1,700-acre estate, then reporting 120 acres in grapes. The two dated reports use different vineyard-area figures; they should not be treated as one simultaneous measurement.
The 1988 report characterized the estate home as a century-old Victorian farmhouse. A later profile by Vanity Fair in 1990 described the Napa residence as a Victorian mansion and noted a nearby three-story carriage house used as Coppola’s library, sound and editing room, and winery. These descriptions cover a residence and working estate buildings, not simply a collection of separate houses.

Homes for Coppola’s children
In a 2025 GQ interview, Coppola recounted making homes for each of his children on the Inglenook property. The interview does not specify how many homes, describe them, or establish who occupies or owns them now.
Other homes and reported holdings in older profiles
Profiles published in 1990 and 1996 offer a wider but strictly historical picture. Their lists differ because they were written at different times and describe a mix of residences and other property types.

| Location or property | What the dated account says | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| San Francisco | Vanity Fair reported in 1990 that Coppola owned a home there. In 1996, the Los Angeles Times described a San Francisco office building among the holdings he retained. | The 1990 profile called it a home; the 1996 report identified an office building. Neither establishes current ownership. |
| Los Angeles | Vanity Fair reported in 1990 that Coppola owned a home there. | A historical report of a home; later ownership is not established by the cited account. |
| New York | Vanity Fair included New York among the locations where he owned homes in 1990. The 1996 Los Angeles Times profile specified an apartment at the Sherry-Netherland Hotel among the holdings he retained. | The later description is a hotel apartment, not necessarily a standalone house. Neither report establishes current ownership. |
| Belize | Vanity Fair reported a home there in 1990; the 1996 Los Angeles Times profile said he retained his Belize property. | The reports establish a historical property holding, not its present status or that it was an ordinary private residence. |
| Napa Valley | Both profiles reported the estate as part of his property story; the 1996 Los Angeles Times account identified the 1,700-acre Niebaum-Coppola estate. | The dated accounts document the estate at those publication times; the 2025 Mansion Global interview gives a later estate description. |
The 1990 list comes from Vanity Fair; the 1996 retained-holdings account is from the Los Angeles Times. The 1996 article places those properties in the context of financial restructuring and says Coppola retained them at that point. It does not report what happened to them after publication.
Properties that were also places to stay
Some properties associated with Coppola belong in a broader account of his real estate and hospitality ventures, but should not automatically be counted as homes where he lived. In a 2016 Architectural Digest interview, Coppola said he bought Blancaneaux Lodge in Belize in 1981 as a remote hideaway. The same interview discusses Palazzo Margherita in Italy: Coppola said he was drawn to the building partly because it dated to the same period as the Inglenook Chateau, then restored it and gave it a hotel life. The cited account presents both as lodging ventures, not as evidence of his current residence.

What can—and cannot—be said about where he lives now
The sources document property claims at particular moments, from the 1990 and 1996 profiles to Coppola’s later interviews about Inglenook and the family homes there. They do not provide a complete, current property register or confirm the present ownership of every home listed in older coverage. The most sustained residential account is the Napa estate; the other locations are best understood as properties reported in those dated profiles, with their different uses kept distinct.
