The Rolls-Royce Phantom Goldfinger is a one-of-one Phantom Extended commissioned as a modern tribute to the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger. It borrows its story from the 1937 Phantom III Sedanca de Ville driven by Auric Goldfinger in the film—but it is a separate, newly commissioned car, not the movie vehicle or a standard Phantom trim.
Which Rolls-Royce did Auric Goldfinger drive?
In the film, Goldfinger’s henchman Oddjob drives a 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Sedanca de Ville across Europe. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ 2024 anniversary account says the car’s bodywork conceals two tonnes of solid 18-carat gold, which Goldfinger plans to smuggle from England over the Furka Pass into Switzerland. His smelting plant then melts the panels into bars. That enormous gold body is part of the film’s fiction, not a description of the real Phantom III.
The Phantom III was the first V12-powered Rolls-Royce. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars gives its 7.3-litre engine’s output as 165 bhp, compared with 120 bhp for the Phantom II, a 37.5% increase as stated by the company in 2024. The film car’s registration, “AU 1,” refers to gold’s chemical symbol; Rolls-Royce says the registration was later transferred to other cars. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ 2024 account of the Phantom III and the film also notes that this model was the final motor car developed by founder Sir Henry Royce before his death in 1933.
What is the Phantom Goldfinger?
Announced on 25 October 2024, the Phantom Goldfinger commemorates the film’s 60th anniversary. Rolls-Royce describes it as a one-of-one Phantom Extended inspired by the Phantom III in the story; the official James Bond website likewise presents it as a unique commission, not a generally available production edition. The official James Bond announcement frames the car as a celebration of the film and highlights its hidden gold bar and golf putter.

The distinction matters: the Phantom III is the car in the film, while the Phantom Goldfinger is a modern Bespoke tribute that translates particular plot details and locations into custom design. Its features are not evidence of standard Phantom equipment or of a car currently offered for ordinary purchase.
How the tribute brings the film into the car
Yellow-and-black exterior and golf putter
The new Phantom echoes the original car’s yellow tone in a yellow-and-black two-tone finish, with 21-inch disc wheels. A gold-plated golf putter sits at the lower edge of the boot lid, a reference to Goldfinger’s golf game in the film.

Furka Pass map and night sky
A three-dimensional contour map of the Furka Pass forms the Gallery artwork. Rolls-Royce says it is made from treated stainless steel with gold-plated details; development took a year and required ten complete prototypes.
The Starlight Headliner depicts the sky above the pass on 11 July 1964, which Rolls-Royce identifies as the final day of filming that scene in Switzerland. It contains 719 stars and eight shooting stars, all hand-fitted.

Gold concealed beneath the surface
The Spirit of Ecstasy is made of solid silver and plated in 18-carat gold, an allusion to the film’s hidden-gold premise. Between the front seats, a redesigned space conceals a vault with an illuminated, solid 18-carat gold bar shaped as a stylized Phantom Speedform.
Fort Knox in the picnic tables
The picnic tables are made from Royal Walnut and carry a 0.1 mm-thick 22-carat gold inlay depicting a fictional map of the Fort Knox bullion reserve. Rolls-Royce says this element took six months and three prototypes.

A Bond reference in the boot
Opening the boot projects a 007 logo onto the carpet, recalling the tracking device used in the film. Together with the putter and maps, the projection turns recognizable story details into bespoke features rather than claiming the new car appeared on screen.
