Tilda Swinton’s partner is Sandro Kopp, an artist. A September 2025 report by El País described them as partners living in Scotland.
Who is Sandro Kopp?
Kopp is an artist whose work includes painting. His official press page features coverage of his art practice and artwork connected to Wes Anderson’s film The French Dispatch: Sandro Kopp’s press page.
How does John Byrne fit into the story?
John Byrne is Swinton’s former partner and the father of her children. In a 2022 profile, The Guardian described Swinton and Byrne as separated and happily co-parenting, while identifying Kopp as her partner. Swinton had also described the distinction in a 2010 interview with Die Presse: she had children with Byrne, was no longer with him, and had an intimate relationship with Kopp.
Were Swinton, Byrne and Kopp in a three-person relationship?
Older coverage sometimes sensationalized the arrangement as a ménage à trois. That framing does not match Swinton’s own account or the later reporting: Byrne was her former partner and co-parent, while Kopp was her partner. The Guardian’s 2022 interview explicitly corrected the earlier portrayal.

How long have Swinton and Kopp been together?
Historical accounts establish that they were a couple by the mid-2000s, but they do not verify an exact start date. In 2008, The Guardian reported they had been together for four years; in 2010, Swinton described the relationship as six years long. Those are estimates reported at the time, not a basis for stating a precise current duration. In the 2008 interview, Swinton said she had been attending events and travelling with “my sweetheart,” referring to Kopp in that context.
