Their relationship was kept largely private, and the public record does not say when it ended. Korda announced her engagement to Casey Gunderson on November 28, 2025, so older stories calling Athanasiou her boyfriend should be read as historical coverage, not confirmation of her current relationship status.
When were Nelly Korda and Andreas Athanasiou first linked?
People reported that Korda and Athanasiou were first publicly linked in 2019. The outlet said they reportedly marked the relationship with a Thanksgiving Day Instagram selfie that was later deleted, while noting that the precise dating start date was unclear. Neither a publicly reported first appearance nor a deleted post establishes when a relationship privately began.
What public moments showed their support for each other?
Golf tournament appearances and calls
Athanasiou was present when Korda won the Meijer LPGA Classic in June 2021. After her Gainbridge LPGA victory in February 2021, Korda held up her phone during a celebration, with Athanasiou on FaceTime, according to People and Town & Country.
A Blackhawks nod at the 2022 Canadian Women’s Open
In August 2022, Korda wore a Chicago Blackhawks jersey in a course video while competing at the Canadian Women’s Open, a gesture reported as a nod to Athanasiou’s team. Athanasiou spoke to TSN about watching her play. People reproduced his description of the experience: “It’s pretty fun, it’s nerve-wracking,” followed by, “I don’t really like watching, I get pretty nervous behind the shot.” The comments were about his nerves as a spectator, not a joint account of their relationship.

Were they still together in 2025?
Reports published shortly before Korda’s engagement announcement used different wording. Athlon wrote on May 31, 2025, that neither had publicly confirmed their current status. Town & Country’s June 1 profile described them as having been in a relationship since 2019 and as low profile. Those dated descriptions do not establish what their private status was later in 2025.
Who is Nelly Korda engaged to?
On November 28, 2025, Korda announced her engagement on Instagram. The LPGA reported the announcement, and Golf Digest identified her fiancé as Casey Gunderson and said the LPGA confirmed his identity. GOLF.com reported that the post’s caption read, “In this life… & the next.” That caption belongs to the engagement announcement; it should not be treated as a statement about Korda’s earlier relationship with Athanasiou.

The available reports do not provide a direct, jointly confirmed account from Korda and Athanasiou explaining how their relationship began or ended.
