For a Christmas Day watchlist that mixes classic animation, sitcom laughs, seasonal baking, music and mystery, these ten picks offer different moods and viewing lengths. “Best” is subjective: this is a curated selection, not a measured ranking. The list uses “shows” broadly, including standalone TV specials and individual episodes as well as series. All schedule and streaming details below refer to 2024; catalogs, rights and free-viewing windows change, so check availability in your country and on your viewing date.
Ten Christmas TV picks for 2024
The picks are ordered by format and viewing mood rather than scored against one another. A one-off special is generally easier to watch without prior context; episodes from ongoing series may land best if you already know the characters.

1. A Charlie Brown Christmas — standalone animated special
This gentle classic follows Charlie Brown as he directs a holiday play and looks for the “perfect” tree. It is the list’s clearest choice for a short, family-oriented watch. Apple TV Press described the special in its 2024 holiday guide and offered a free Apple TV+ streaming window on December 14–15, 2024. Those dates have passed; they are not a current availability promise. Apple TV Press’ 2024 guide.
2. The Simpsons: “O C’mon All Ye Faithful” — 2024 double-episode special
For a newer animated comedy option, this two-part Christmas special brings the long-running series into the holiday slate. The Associated Press reported that it would stream on Disney+ from December 17, 2024, a historical U.S.-oriented schedule detail rather than a present-day catalog check. 3. Seinfeld: “The Strike” — Christmas-season sitcom episode
Festivus is the episode’s alternative to conventional Christmas cheer, making this a good fit for viewers who want a familiar sitcom rather than a sentimental special. TIME included “The Strike” in its December 2024 editorial selection of holiday TV episodes. TIME’s Christmas TV episode selection.
4. Frasier: “Merry Christmas, Mrs. Moskowitz” — farcical sitcom episode
This episode leans into escalating misunderstandings and social performance, offering a more farce-driven holiday watch. It was another of TIME’s 2024 editorial picks. TIME’s Christmas TV episode selection.

5. Happy Endings: “Grinches Be Crazy” — ensemble sitcom episode
Choose this one for a less obvious holiday comedy pick built around the ensemble’s hijinks. TIME included it in its 2024 roundup; that is an editorial recommendation, not evidence of an objective ranking. TIME’s Christmas TV episode selection.
6. The Great British Baking Show: Holidays — seasonal competition series
For a gentler group watch centered on food and friendly competition, this seasonal edition provides a change of pace from scripted Christmas stories. Netflix Tudum included the show in its 2024 holiday coverage. That guide documents the 2024 slate, not current Netflix availability by country. Netflix Tudum’s 2024 holiday guide.

7. The Santa Clauses — continuing family holiday series
This series extends the Santa-themed story across episodes, so it suits viewers looking for more than a single special. Disney+ Press included it in a 2023 holiday collection; the cited collection listed season two, not a new 2024 release. Disney+ Press’ 2023 holiday collection.
8. Hawkeye — action-adventure series with a holiday setting
If you would rather have superhero action than a traditional Christmas story, Disney’s holiday collection also included this series. Its seasonal setting makes it a tonal outlier on the list, and the 2023 collection is evidence of the themed selection—not confirmation of current streaming rights. 10. The Chelsea Detective, season 3 Christmas episode — seasonal mystery
For a crime-drama mood instead of seasonal comedy, the season-three premiere was announced as a Christmas episode. AMC’s November 2024 announcement places it in that year’s holiday programming; it does not establish present availability. AMC’s November 2024 holiday announcement.

How to choose what to watch on Christmas Day
Match the format and tone to the time you have and the people watching. The titles here range from one-off or event specials to sitcom episodes and full continuing series; they are not interchangeable in length or familiarity requirements.
- For a standalone, gentle option: choose A Charlie Brown Christmas.
- For a quick comedy episode: try one of the Seinfeld, Frasier or Happy Endings picks; prior familiarity may make the jokes land better.
- For food and low-stakes competition: put on The Great British Baking Show: Holidays.
- For action or mystery: choose Hawkeye or The Chelsea Detective, respectively.
- For a music-centered group watch: consider A Motown Christmas.
For family viewing, check the program’s rating and suitability for the children watching rather than assuming that a Christmas setting makes every title child-appropriate.
Where to stream these Christmas shows
The linked announcements and guides establish what services or schedules were associated with particular titles in 2023 or 2024; they do not verify what is streaming now. Availability can differ by country, date and subscription, and a past free window is not a recurring offer. Search the title in your local service catalog or consult the distributor’s current listing before planning a watch.
AMC described its 2024 “Best Christmas Ever” programming run as spanning November 30 through December 26 and featuring more than 550 hours of holiday programming. That figure referred to AMC’s announced 2024 event, not an independent measurement or a claim about a later year. AMC’s 2024 announcement.
