What happened to the Hawk Tuah coin?
Welch became widely known in June 2024 after the “Hawk Tuah” phrase and video went viral, according to TRM Labs. On December 4, HAWK launched on Solana. The complaint says the official launch time was 22:00 UTC.
The token’s value climbed soon after launch and then dropped sharply. Wolf Popper LLP, a firm representing plaintiffs, reported that HAWK’s market capitalization reached $491 million. That is a reported market-cap figure, not an accounting of money raised, proceeds received, or verified investor losses.
Why did the HAWK coin crash?
The available sources establish that HAWK rose and then fell, but they do not establish a definitive cause for the crash. The complaint describes the token’s marketing and launch as part of plaintiffs’ allegations; it does not prove those claims or explain the market move as a judicial finding. Nor do the sources establish a verified aggregate figure for investor losses.

OverHere, the project account, publicly denied that Welch’s team sold tokens. The Block reported its December 5, 2024 statement: “Haliey’s Team has sold absolutely no tokens whatsover.” That is the project side’s denial, not independent evidence resolving wallet activity or the timing and purpose of token transfers.
Was Haliey Welch sued over the HAWK coin?
Investors filed a complaint on December 19, 2024, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, alleging federal securities-law violations related to the offer and sale of HAWK. The complaint alleges that defendants offered and sold the token without proper securities registration. A filed complaint states the plaintiffs’ claims; it does not establish that a court found a violation, fraud, insider trading, or a “rug pull.”

Later that month, Welch said she was cooperating with lawyers representing impacted individuals. The Atlantic quoted her statement: “I am fully cooperating with and am committed to assisting the legal team representing the individuals impacted, as well as to help uncover the truth, hold the responsible parties accountable, and resolve this matter,” she wrote on X.

They include the original complaint and plaintiffs’ counsel’s case materials, not an authoritative current docket entry. It would therefore be inaccurate to say, on this evidence, that the case was settled, dismissed, or resulted in liability.
