Mandy Moore shared a GoFundMe for her brother- and sister-in-law after their home was destroyed in the Eaton Fire. When commenters questioned whether she and her family were helping, Moore said they were, explained that a friend had started the fundraiser, and told critics, “Kindly F OFF,” according to contemporary coverage.
Who was the GoFundMe for?
On January 9, 2025, Moore shared a fundraiser for her brother-in-law Griff and sister-in-law Kit, whose home and belongings were lost in the Eaton Fire. Parade reported that the couple were expecting their first child within weeks. Moore also said Griff was a touring musician who had lost the drums and percussion equipment he used for work. Why did Moore share it, and what did she say?
Moore’s post asked people to consider donating to the campaign and sharing it. After commenters challenged the appeal and asked whether her family was contributing, Moore responded that her family was helping and that their friend Matt had started the fundraiser. As Parade reproduced her explanation, she wrote: “Our buddy Matt started this go fund me and i’m sharing because people have asked how they can help them.”
She also addressed her own losses, writing, “We just lost most of our life in a fire too,” and ended the reply to critics with: “Kindly F OFF. no one is forcing you to do anything.” These quotations are reproduced as attributed by contemporary reporting; the original Instagram posts were not independently verified for this account.

Was Moore’s own home affected by the Eaton Fire?
Yes. Moore was also affected. Parade reported her description of her Altadena home as not livable but mostly intact, with losses to the garage and back house. The Associated Press reported her account of losses across her neighborhood and community, including her children’s school and local restaurants. In language quoted by AP, Moore said, “Our community is broken but we will be here to rebuild together.” The AP’s January 2025 report provides that contemporaneous community context.
Those January 2025 accounts describe conditions at the time; they do not establish the present status of Moore’s home or neighborhood.

What the dispute was—and what the reports do not establish
The criticism reported at the time centered on the optics of a public figure sharing a donation request for relatives. Moore’s response was that her family was helping and that she shared the link because people had asked how they could assist. The available reporting does not establish how much Moore personally contributed, the family’s finances, or the current amount or status of the campaign.
