Haunted Mansion (2023) is a supernatural comedy-adventure directed by Justin Simien and inspired by Disney’s classic theme-park attraction. It follows a New Orleans family and a mismatched team of supposed spiritual experts as they confront the ghosts in their home.

Widowed New York doctor Gabbie, played by Rosario Dawson, and her son Travis, played by Chase W. Dillon, move to New Orleans hoping to turn a large fixer-upper into a bed and breakfast. The house has supernatural occupants, so they seek help from an unlikely group: Father Kent, a priest played by Owen Wilson; Ben, a paranormal scientist played by LaKeith Stanfield; Harriet, a French Quarter psychic played by Tiffany Haddish; and Bruce Davis, a Tulane professor played by Danny DeVito.

Justin Simien directed the film from a screenplay by Katie Dippold. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are credited as producers; Nick Reynolds and Tom Peitzman as executive producers. Darren Gilford was the production designer, and Kris Bowers composed the original score. How does the film connect to the Haunted Mansion attraction?
The movie treats the attraction as inspiration and a source of visual and story references, while giving its characters a distinct feature-film plot. D23 reports that filming took place on location in New Orleans and at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, with Gilford’s production design informed by the attraction.
Simien described the practical approach to the sets in D23’s July 2023 interview: “It was really important to us, with a movie like this, to shoot as much as we could practically—to ground the audience in the film’s reality.”

Disney announced on September 10, 2023, that the film would begin streaming on Disney+ and become available for digital purchase on October 4, 2023. The announcement named Prime Video, Apple TV and Vudu among digital retailers, and said digital buyers would receive behind-the-scenes bonus content. Disney UK also identifies DVD and Blu-ray formats. These announcements establish release formats, not what is currently available in a particular country.
