Tana Mongeau has said she had sex with Cody Ko when she was 17 and he was 25. Her account became widely discussed in 2024, but it is an allegation—not a court finding. Here is what Mongeau said, what has been reported about Ko and the aftermath, and what remains unresolved.
What did Tana Mongeau allege?
At a live recording of the Cancelled podcast in Sacramento in late May 2024, Mongeau answered an audience question and identified Ko. Rolling Stone Canada reported that she said she was “literally 17.” Rolling Stone Canada’s report and TIME’s account covered the remark.
In June, Mongeau discussed the allegation on Cancelled and on Trisha Paytas’ podcast. TIME quoted her saying, “I hooked up with Cody Ko when I was 17 and he was 25,” and, “Yeah it happened.” She said she would not do the same thing at her current age and described herself as having been “taken advantage of.” TIME also reported that she said she did not consider the incident a trauma. These are Mongeau’s statements about her experience, not an independently established account of the event.
What has been reported about the location and warning?
TIME reported that Mongeau identified Florida as the location. It quoted a legal summary attributed to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: “A child who is at least 16 years of age and less than 18 years of age cannot consent to sexual activity if the defendant is 24 years of age or older.” That is a secondary outlet’s summary of a legal threshold, not a finding about what happened or whether anyone committed an offense. The allegation’s legal significance cannot be determined from that summary alone.

Mongeau also said Gabbie Hanna warned Ko that Mongeau was 17 before the two left and hooked up. TIME described a clip shared by commentary creator D’Angelo Wallace and a separate post by Keemstar concerning Hanna’s account. This is reported context attributed to Mongeau and those accounts; it is not a court-tested finding.
How did the allegation gain wider attention?
July 14, 2024: D’Angelo Wallace’s video
Wallace published An uncomfortable conversation about Cody Ko on July 14, 2024. TIME said the video brought wider attention to the matter and urged viewers to take Mongeau’s claim seriously. Watch Wallace’s video on YouTube.

In a statement signed by Ko and Noel Miller, the studio said, “As we enter into this next phase of the studio, we wanted to let you know that Cody will not be involved in the day-to-day operations at TMG Studios.” TIME reported that the statement called the matter a “personal issue” but did not directly refer to Mongeau’s allegation. TIME also reported that the hosts of Emergency Intercom said they would produce their show independently. The business announcement does not establish what happened in the alleged encounter.
December 2024 / January 2025: Ko’s reported remarks
Geo.tv reported that a December marathon-training video included Ko saying he had been offline and understood that viewers’ opinions might have changed.
