What does “exactly one year” mean here?
It means the deaths fell on the same month and day in consecutive calendar years: September 27, 2023, and September 27, 2024. The Los Angeles Times explicitly noted that Gambon died on the same date as Smith, a year earlier (Los Angeles Times, September 27, 2024).
That calendar comparison does not show that the deaths happened at matching hours, or that exactly 365 days elapsed between them. The sources report dates, not a shared time of day or a precise elapsed-time interval.

What is known about Smith’s final day?
Smith’s sons said she died early Friday in a London hospital, according to the Associated Press. Their statement, as reported by the AP, said: “She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother.”
