Josh Duhamel has described his remote Minnesota property as a place for family and friends to unplug and spend time together. But the available reporting does not establish that he and his family have moved there full time: a June 2026 report identifies Fargo, North Dakota, as their primary residence. The cabin is best understood as a long-developed family retreat, with some basic conditions of remote living—not as a fully documented off-grid residence.
Where is Josh Duhamel’s cabin?
Duhamel has described the property as being in rural Minnesota, deep in the woods. He told Parade in 2025 that he built his place there because it was “removed from everything.” The interviews do not give a more precise public location or an acreage figure.
Does Josh Duhamel live in Minnesota?
Not according to the latest residence report in the sources cited here. A June 2026 report by The Bullet / WWBL describes Fargo, North Dakota, as the family’s primary residence and the Minnesota property as a retreat. Residence arrangements can change, but that reporting does not support saying the family has relocated to the cabin or lives there full time.
How did Duhamel develop the property?
Duhamel told Parade that he had spent more than 15 years developing the Minnesota plot into a functioning place for his family. His account to Cowboys & Indians in September 2026 describes a gradual start: “When I first started this project, we just had an outhouse, not a real bathroom, and we washed dishes in the lake.”

He also said he later acquired a Bobcat machine that helped him clear land and begin work on a larger structure. The interview does not identify the machine’s exact model, so it should not be treated as a specific equipment recommendation or endorsement.
What does “off the grid” mean in this case?
The interviews convey remoteness and a return to basics, but they do not provide a technical inventory of the cabin’s utilities. They do not establish whether it has a particular independent power system, how its water is supplied, or what sanitation and heating systems it uses today. Calling it an off-grid retreat reflects the way the property is described in coverage; it is not evidence of a fully specified, self-sufficient setup.

Distance and everyday necessities
Duhamel told Parade in 2025, “The closest store is 40 miles away.” That is his interview estimate, not an independently verified measurement. He has framed the practical priorities of cabin life as keeping everyone warm and having food and water, rather than offering a general guide to off-grid living.
Why the remoteness appeals to him
In the Parade interview, Duhamel said he values being removed from everyday distractions and having family and friends look after one another. His descriptions make the cabin’s appeal as much about time together and simplicity as about the physical work involved in developing the land.
