The cited report did not name them or say that they were charged. They were a separate pair from the two men already charged with murder.
Who were the two additional men arrested?
The men were not named in ITV News Calendar’s 21 October 2025 report. Police said they would be interviewed that day, then bailed and returned to prison while inquiries continued. The report does not establish whether charges followed.
West Yorkshire Police Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle said: “Extensive enquiries remain ongoing in relation to the murder of Ian Watkins and these arrests form part of that.” ITV News Calendar reported the arrests on 21 October 2025.
How were the arrests different from the murder charges?
| Procedural status | People and reported details |
|---|---|
| Arrest on suspicion | Two unnamed men, aged 23 and 39, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder; the report said they were interviewed, bailed and returned to prison while inquiries continued. |
| Charged with murder | Rashid Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, had already been charged with murder by the time of the October 2025 report. Later court reporting refers to Gedel as Rico Gedel. |
An arrest on suspicion is not a charge or a finding of guilt. The October report identifies the additional men only by age and prison, and does not say they were charged.

Gedel, also reported as Rico Gedel, and Dodsworth denied murder and possessing a knife in prison. The discharge did not produce a verdict; the allegations remained unresolved, and the retrial was to be listed at a later date. The reports do not specify the legal reason for discharging the jury or give a retrial date. The Guardian’s 22 May 2026 report also said the case would be retried.

Arrest, charge and verdict are not the same
- Arrest: Police take a person into custody on suspicion of an offence; it does not establish guilt.
- Charge: A formal accusation, distinct from an earlier arrest. The October 2025 report said Gedel and Dodsworth had been charged with murder.
- Trial and jury discharge: The jury discharge ended that trial without a verdict; it did not amount to an acquittal or conviction.
