TLC says 30 guests watched Sam and Citra exchange handwritten vows. The couple described wanting a small celebration with both families present so they could feel supported and celebrate with loved ones.

Why did having both families there matter?
In their interview with People, Sam and Citra said having both families present was important. Citra is from Indonesia, while Sam is from Missouri. Citra said their parents set aside differing religious beliefs to celebrate the marriage. The couple also described planning the wedding on short notice as stressful, but said the result made the effort worthwhile.

TLC says the reception featured classic American small bites and a three-tier vanilla cake. The couple had initially considered Indonesian traditional food, but Sam explained that they chose against it because they expected it to be too spicy for their American guests.
