In a petition filed August 14, 2023, in Shelby County Probate Court, Oher alleged that he believed he was signing adoption papers but was instead placed under a conservatorship. He also alleged that the Tuohys benefited financially from his name and story. Those are allegations in Oher’s petition, not findings of fact.

The story’s public narrative predates the lawsuit. Michael Lewis published The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game in 2006, and the film adaptation, The Blind Side, followed in 2009. The book and film provide context for the public image Oher discussed in the interview, but neither settles the parties’ disagreement.
What did the Tuohys say in response?
The Tuohys disputed Oher’s claims through their attorney, Martin Singer. In an Associated Press report on August 15, 2023, Singer called the claims “outlandish,” “hurtful and absurd.” AP also reported Singer’s allegation that Oher had threatened negative publicity unless the family paid him $15 million. That was the lawyer’s accusation, not an independently established fact or a court finding.
