If you finished The Acolyte wanting the story to continue, the practical answer is bittersweet: ABC News reported on August 19, 2024, that the series would not receive a second season. The finale leaves the future open, but no announced book is a continuation of it. For more time with familiar characters, Lucasfilm’s The Acolyte: The Crystal Crown is the closest fit—a prequel featuring Jecki Lon, Yord Fandar, and Master Sol.
What the finale leaves open
Lucasfilm’s official episode guide describes the finale this way: “Past tragedies are revisited in the light of new truth, and a surprise choice leads the way to an uncertain future.” That uncertainty is part of the ending, not a promise that the story will continue on screen.
The finale also brings Vernestra Rwoh to Yoda, a meeting Lucasfilm acknowledged in its publishing announcement. And the official StarWars.com databank confirms Darth Plagueis appears in the series and was already working against the Jedi during the High Republic era. Those details create room for possibilities, but they do not establish what a second season’s story would have been.
Is there a second season or another screen continuation?
ABC News reported on August 19, 2024, that The Acolyte would not receive a second season. Its eight-episode run ended July 16, 2024. StarWars.com’s official series page lists the first season and its episode guides, but does not announce a continuation. That is the reported status; it does not prove that no future screen project could ever be made.

Lucasfilm announced Tessa Gratton’s young-adult novel Star Wars: The Acolyte: The Crystal Crown as a story set before the show. It brings back Jecki Lon and Yord Fandar and includes Master Sol, making it the most direct character-focused companion for viewers who miss the cast. Its placement matters: it is a prequel, not a sequel, and it does not continue or resolve the finale.

Lucasfilm also announced a physical The Acolyte Visual Guide. It is a better fit if what you want is reference material on the show’s characters, creatures, locations, technology, and production design rather than another narrative. Check current edition and retailer availability before buying.

For a wider High Republic reading path
The Acolyte is a live-action story set about 100 years before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, in the final years of the High Republic. The books and comics associated with the High Republic offer a broader view of that era, but they are adjacent reading rather than direct prequels to the show. StarWars.com’s chronological guide covers three publishing phases and lets readers choose chronology, release order, or format. It describes Phase I as set around 200 years before the Skywalker saga, Phase II as an earlier prequel, and Phase III as a return to the period after Phase I.
If Vernestra Rwoh’s place in the story is what caught your attention, StarWars.com’s character guide points to A Test of Courage, Out of the Shadows, Mission to Disaster, “The Force Provides” in Tales of Light and Life, Defy the Storm, and Temptation of the Force. These books add character and era context; none is presented as a substitute for a second season.

Where the show sits in Star Wars
Lucasfilm describes The Acolyte as a story from the final years of the High Republic, roughly a century before The Phantom Menace. Its central conflict places Jedi Master Sol against a dark-side threat while following Mae and Osha Aniseya. That mix of mystery, Jedi institutions, tangled histories, and dark-side intrigue is the thread to follow if you choose the wider High Republic books and comics—not an assurance that they answer every question the finale leaves behind.
