Spoilers for Season 1, Episode 5: Joan Vassos sent Mark, Jonathan, and Keith home, leaving Pascal, Chock, Jordan, and Guy to advance to hometown dates.
Who did Joan send home before hometowns?
At the start of Episode 5, 11 of the original 24 men remained. Joan eliminated three: Mark, Jonathan, and Keith. Four contestants earned the hometown dates: Pascal, Chock, Jordan, and Guy, according to AARP’s October 16, 2024 recap.
| Episode 5 outcome | Contestants |
|---|---|
| Sent home | Mark, Jonathan, Keith |
| Advanced to hometowns | Pascal, Chock, Jordan, Guy |
How the episode set up the decisions
The episode included a group bowling date and a one-on-one date with Keith that began with a helicopter ride. Trista Sutter also visited Joan and offered advice, telling her, “My biggest regret is that I didn’t share more,” as reported by AARP.
AARP’s recap framed the episode against Joan’s continuing grief for her late husband, John. That context informs the emotional tone, but it does not establish a specific private reason for any one elimination.

The hometown visits took place in the following episode, not Episode 5. In its October 23, 2024 coverage, ABC News reported that Joan visited the families of Guy, Pascal, Jordan, and Chock, then said goodbye to Jordan. That later departure is separate from Episode 5’s eliminations of Mark, Jonathan, and Keith.
