What does the gala support?
Proceeds benefit UK HealthCare’s Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center. The University of Kentucky says Patricia and Priscilla Barnstable Brown and their mother, Wilma, established the center in 2008. They pledged its initial funding in memory of Patricia’s husband, David, who died in 2003 from complications of diabetes.
In the university’s 2024 announcement, center director Simon Fisher, M.D., Ph.D., said, “The number of patients seen at the Barnstable Brown has doubled in the past few years. Each year we are seeing nearly 25,000 Kentuckians receive specialized medical care at Barnstable Brown.” Those figures are Fisher’s statements as quoted by the university, not independently verified counts here. No. The university announcement records the announced lineup, not confirmed attendance by individual guests. Derby-week celebrity forecasts are also predictions rather than evidence of arrival; the Lexington Herald-Leader described Derby celebrity predictions as guesses and the gala list as a possible barometer, not confirmation.
