Jonah did not kill Ronan Flaherty. Episode 9, “Collateral Damage,” ends with Jonah bloodied beside Flaherty’s body, but episode 10, “Hard Truths,” reveals that Doyle O’Keefe killed Flaherty—and that O’Keefe had also murdered Judge Ben Silver. The midseason finale also pushes Danny toward a permanent Boston PD role and leaves Jonah facing department discipline.
What happens at the end of “Collateral Damage”?
In the season 1 midseason finale, which aired on CBS on December 19, 2025, Mae Silver fires ADA Beekman for breaking the law. The case against Ronan Flaherty, who had been convicted of killing Judge Ben Silver, is compromised by prosecutorial misconduct. Flaherty is released as a result.
Jonah, still furious over his father’s death, follows and threatens Flaherty without authorization. The episode ends with Jonah bloodied near Flaherty’s body. It does not show who shot Flaherty or what happened in the room, making Jonah’s apparent involvement the episode’s central unresolved question.
Did Jonah kill Ronan Flaherty?
No. Episode 10, “Hard Truths,” which aired on February 27, 2026, identifies Doyle O’Keefe as Flaherty’s killer. O’Keefe is also revealed to be the real killer of Ben Silver. Jonah is in danger and under suspicion, but he did not fire the fatal shots.

Who killed Ben Silver, and why?
Doyle O’Keefe killed Judge Ben Silver. He was working as a hired gun for property tycoon David Laughlin, who ordered Ben’s murder. Flaherty’s original conviction had concealed the larger conspiracy rather than identified the true killer.
O’Keefe nearly shoots Jonah, but Sean shoots and wounds O’Keefe. O’Keefe is arrested. The revelation gives the family answers, but it does not undo Ben’s death; CBS’s synopsis describes the aftermath through the family’s continuing anger and grief.

Why does Danny accept Sarah’s Boston PD offer?
Superintendent Sarah Silver offers Danny a permanent detective position with Boston PD. Accepting means leaving the NYPD, where he and his family have spent generations. After Jonah’s apparent involvement makes Danny the person who can lead the investigation, Danny accepts: “I guess I’m going to need that Boston badge after all.”
Co-creator and showrunner Brandon Sonnier said the decision is rooted in Danny’s loyalty to his new family, not just the needs of the investigation: “But in order to take lead on this, as we’ve established, he’s gotta take that badge. We wanted to really drive it from an emotional place, from a family place, more so even than the procedure of it. In the second half of the season, we do back into the procedure of him becoming a full Boston PD cop and walking away from the NYPD.”
