Wuthering Waves is built around fast, active combat and high-mobility exploration, but whether its opening hours deliver on those promises depends on how you respond to its story and systems. The available accounts point to a game with appealing movement and combat for some players, alongside launch-era complaints about exposition and technical problems. Those comments are personal, dated reactions—not a substitute for a current hands-on review.
What Wuthering Waves asks you to do
PlayStation describes Wuthering Waves as a story-rich open-world action RPG. Its store page puts exploration and combat up front, promising freedom from stamina limits, wall parkour, flight, and a high-mobility motorbike. Those are official feature claims, not independent findings about how well the systems feel in play. PlayStation’s game page presents the intended appeal: move quickly through an open world, then engage enemies in active combat.
That makes the opening hours worth judging on four practical questions: does combat become engaging, does traversal make exploration feel fluid, is the story easy to follow, and does the game perform well on your platform? The first two are central advertised hooks; the latter two need to be assessed against your own experience and current build.
Combat and exploration: the main early draw
Player accounts offer reasons to be curious, but not a verdict that applies to everyone. One Apple App Store review praises fluid combat, the Echo system, wall-running, and grappling, and compares the game with Genshin Impact. A Google Play review excerpt says combat places substantial emphasis on learning enemies. These are individual reactions, not a representative survey, and they leave useful things for a new player to test: how clearly enemies telegraph attacks, whether dodges and parries feel readable, and whether movement and combat work together rather than feeling like separate attractions.

For a fair comparison with another open-world action RPG, focus on specific criteria: combat depth and enemy readability, traversal speed and freedom, story pacing and clarity, and performance on the same platform. The comments surfaced here do not establish a controlled comparison with Genshin Impact, so they cannot support a blanket claim that one game is better.
Story and onboarding: a point of disagreement
A Reddit account written after twelve hours of play criticized the opening for its exposition and banter. That is one player’s launch-period impression, not proof that every player will find the story confusing or that the current opening is unchanged. It does, however, identify a useful question for prospective players: does the game explain its setting and terminology at a pace that keeps you invested?

Some of the early discussion also praised the combat, illustrating how the game’s strengths and frustrations can coexist for different players. Treat launch-era posts as snapshots of individual experiences rather than a measure of present-day consensus.
Platforms, cross-progression, and changing figures
Platform details and store statistics have dates attached. PlayStation Blog said in a March 21, 2025 article that data-sharing was supported across PS5, PC, and mobile. Check the current account-linking and cross-progression rules for your platform before starting if you plan to switch devices. The same article reported that the game reached 30 million worldwide downloads in its first month of official release in 2024; that is a historical download milestone, not an active-player count. PlayStation Blog’s version 2.2 announcement gives that dated context.

Steam lists April 28, 2025 as the PC release date. Its listing showed 88% positive English reviews from roughly 29,700 reviews in a search-indexed snapshot accessed October 4, 2026. Steam review totals and percentages change, so treat the figure as a time-bound indicator rather than a permanent score. - Try it if: you want a free-to-play open-world action RPG whose official pitch emphasizes active combat and fast traversal.
- Pay attention to the opening if: you need a story to explain its world and terminology clearly before you invest time in its systems.
- Judge performance on your own setup: launch-era complaints about stuttering and server issues are not evidence of current conditions on every platform.
- Compare by criteria, not reputation: test movement, enemy readability, narrative pacing, and technical performance on the same device you use for other games.
The available player comments are useful as questions to bring into a first session, not as a replacement for one. A genuine hands-on impression should identify platform, approximate play time, and progress, then separate what the player observed from what the game’s store page promises.
