Thousands of fans lined Birmingham’s Broad Street on July 30, 2025, as Ozzy Osbourne’s hearse travelled toward the Black Sabbath bench and bridge. The public procession took place eight days after Osbourne died at 76; the funeral service that followed was private.
Where and when the public farewell took place
The procession moved along Broad Street in Birmingham, Osbourne’s home city and the place where Black Sabbath formed in 1968. It paused at the Black Sabbath bench on the Broad Street canal bridge, which had become a gathering point for tributes. The bench was unveiled in 2019, according to The Associated Press.
Fans chanted, “Ozzy, Ozzy, Ozzy, oi, oi, oi” as the cortege passed. Reports described thousands along the route, but did not establish a precise verified crowd total.
What happened during the procession
The hearse was followed by six vehicles carrying the Osbourne family, with police motorcycle riders and a police car accompanying the cortege. Family members briefly got out to look at the tributes. The Associated Press reported that Sharon Osbourne was visibly moved and wiped away tears.
