Mace’s claims, the couple’s denials, and the court’s later dismissal of Musgrave’s defamation case are distinct: the dismissal did not determine whether the underlying accusations were true.
What Nancy Mace said about Brian Musgrave
On February 10, 2025, South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Mace named Brian Musgrave, her former fiancé Patrick Bryant, and two other men during a lengthy speech on the House floor. She accused Bryant of rape and accused the men of involvement in sexual crimes and nonconsensual recordings. Contemporary reports said she displayed names and photographs on a placard. These were Mace’s allegations, not findings of guilt. CNN’s transcript of the interview and speech records Mace’s characterization: “These men aren’t just criminals, they are predators. And you can see the names and the faces of these predators on this board.”
How Brian and Jen Musgrave responded
In CNN’s March 10 interview, Brian Musgrave denied committing or witnessing the acts Mace alleged. His wife, Jen, defended him: “He’s nowhere near any of those things that she was accusing him of. He’s just a really good man. You know, we’ve been together 28 years, married 22 years. He’s my best friend.” CNN identified Jen as Brian’s wife. The Independent’s contemporaneous report also described the couple’s response and the effect the allegations had on them.
Musgrave described the potential lasting effect on his reputation and business to CNN: “For the rest of my life, when someone Googles Brian Musgrave, this is going to be the thing that comes up. It’s catastrophic.” His concern was about the public impact of the accusations; it is not evidence for or against their truth.

What CNN reported about the investigation and alleged files
CNN reported on March 10, 2025, that the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division told the network it was investigating allegations of assault, harassment, and voyeurism, and that the subject of that investigation was Patrick Bryant. CNN also said Bryant’s representative denied all criminal allegations. That report describes the investigation’s status at the time; it does not establish its present status or a finding about Musgrave.
Mace said she had found more than 10,000 videos and photos. CNN said it had not independently reviewed any videos or photos and could not verify their contents. The reported number and the alleged contents therefore remain claims, not independently verified facts in CNN’s account.

Musgrave’s defamation suit and its outcome
Brian Musgrave filed a federal libel and defamation action against Mace on March 14, 2025. The State’s report on the filing described a complaint alleging that Mace falsely accused him and seeking damages and an injunction. Those statements were allegations in a complaint, not court findings.
A reproduced federal order dated August 20, 2025 states that the United States was substituted as defendant, motions to dismiss were granted, and the action was dismissed with prejudice. The reproduced order and docket record concern the case’s legal disposition. The dismissal did not decide whether Mace’s underlying accusations were true or whether Musgrave committed the acts he denied. The cited record does not establish whether an appeal or later proceeding followed, so no conclusion about subsequent procedural history should be drawn from the dismissal alone.
