“The Disciple” aired February 16, 2025. CBS’s episode guide describes the case as a new lead in Colter’s “white whale” search for Gina Picket; Paramount+ lists the episode at 42 minutes and TV-14. CBS’s episode guide and Paramount+’s series listing provide the official episode and series information.
How Frank Whales connects to Gina’s disappearance
Retired cop Keaton asks Colter to retrace the day Gina vanished. In the episode’s account, 19-year-old Gina left her job at a mall’s Hot Topic at 6:10 p.m. on October 15, 2014. She disappeared on the way to her car, in a gap in the mall’s camera coverage. Her sister Camille found Gina’s car the next day.
Gina had mentioned a man who lingered around the mall: Frank Whales, who had prior convictions for sexually assaulting a teenager. Colter and Keaton revisit Frank and find a hairpin Gina wore when she left work. Frank admits he was with her, but says another man—the one he calls the Teacher—controlled him and made him find girls.

Gina’s fate—and what closure means for Colter
Gina is not found alive. Noah’s confession gives authorities the location of her remains, so Camille can finally bury her sister and grieve with a place to return to. At Gina’s funeral, Camille thanks Colter. She plans to travel before possibly reconnecting with him. Colter, in turn, thanks Keaton for helping solve the case; the two part on good terms.
In a February 16, 2025, TV Insider interview, Justin Hartley, who plays Colter, described the mix of relief and grief: “Yeah, it’s an interesting feeling. I would describe it as relief, instant relief, also just heartache and sorrow because of the way he found her. He found her, but he didn’t find her alive, so that’s not good.”
