Jessica Batten and Mark Cuevas got engaged on Love Is Blind, but Jessica declined to marry him at the altar in the season-one finale. Their relationship appeared to lose momentum after the pods, and later accounts point to several sources of strain—not one proven, definitive reason for her decision.
How Jessica and Mark got engaged
Jessica and Mark formed a connection in the pods, where contestants dated without seeing one another, and became engaged. But Mark was not Jessica’s only strong connection: she also developed a close bond with Matthew Barnett, who later married Amber Pike. That triangle is important context, but it does not establish why Jessica ultimately said no. Entertainment Tonight’s March 2020 account describes Jessica’s connections with both men.
What happened at the wedding?
At the altar, Jessica declined to marry Mark, ending their engagement on camera. The season-one finale aired on February 27, 2020, though filming had wrapped in fall 2018; viewers saw the decision well after the events themselves. Entertainment Tonight’s finale coverage reported the wedding outcome and production timing.
Why did Jessica say no?
The available accounts do not settle on a single private cause. The on-screen relationship had become uncertain after the pods. Netflix Tudum’s September 29, 2026 retrospective says the spark seemed to fade after the couples left the pods, and identifies the Barnett connection and the age difference between Jessica and Mark as context. Those are retrospective observations, not a definitive explanation from either participant. Netflix Tudum’s season-one update also covers what happened to the cast afterward.

Jessica’s later account
In a 2021 interview, Jessica said that after they were back in Atlanta, Mark mentioned on a couple of occasions that he had spent time with another woman. She said this bothered her because she was still trying to see their relationship through. This is Jessica’s account of what Mark told her; it should not be treated as an independently established finding that he cheated. Entertainment Tonight’s July 30, 2021 interview also notes that later accounts about Mark’s relationship with Lauren “LC” Chamblin differed over whether Jessica and Mark had discussed exclusivity.
Mark’s account of their living arrangement
Mark described their post-pod setup differently from what a viewer might assume from the show. In an Esquire interview, he said Jessica kept her own nearby house and was sometimes at the apartment where he stayed. He characterized the apartment as a place intended to help couples work things out, while saying that was not consistently their situation. This is Mark’s description, not independently verified production detail. Esquire’s February 2020 interview with Mark gives his account.

Did Jessica and Mark stay together?
No. They did not remain a couple after the show. Netflix Tudum’s September 29, 2026 update reports that Jessica married her partner in August 2022 and had a child in June 2023. It says Mark married Aubrey Rainey and announced their separation in March 2025. These later milestones happened after the show’s 2018 filming and 2020 broadcast storyline; they do not, by themselves, explain Jessica’s decision at the altar. Netflix Tudum’s cast update lists their current relationship status and those milestones.
