In the CulturEd account, Lam-ang is born with extraordinary abilities. His mother, Namon-gan, tells him that his father, Don Juan Panganiban, left to fight the Igorots and never returned. Lam-ang sets out, discovers evidence of his father’s death, and defeats the Igorots. He later seeks Ines Kannoyan, travels with a rooster and a dog, and meets the demands of her family before marrying her. In the final episode, a large fish swallows him; a diver retrieves his remains, and his rooster helps bring him back to life.
Which versions of the epic are documented?
The epic has a history of recorded versions rather than one edition that should automatically be treated as definitive. CulturEd’s Sagisag Kultura entry reports that priest Gerardo Blanco recorded a version in 1889 and Canuto Medina recorded one in 1906. It also mentions a version published in La Lucha, a 1927 version by Parayno, and a 1935 version by Leopoldo Yabes.
