EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is worth watching if you want to experience Elvis Presley as a live performer and hear him speak in his own voice. Baz Luhrmann’s 2026 film is built from concert and archival material, not a newly staged show or a cradle-to-grave biography. Its central appeal is the way performance footage, interviews and archival images are assembled into a portrait.
What kind of Elvis film is EPiC?
EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is an archival concert film directed by Baz Luhrmann. Paramount says it draws on footage from Presley’s 1970s Las Vegas residency, rare 16mm material associated with Elvis on Tour, and 8mm footage from the Graceland archive. The streaming announcement also refers to unheard recordings. Paramount’s film description outlines the archival sources.
This is not a conventional biographical documentary that follows Presley from childhood through fame and death. The film gives priority to his performances and voice. RogerEbert.com describes it as an extended concert film in which Elvis has room to speak for himself, while TIME’s review describes a mix of performance and interview material. Those are critical readings of the film’s approach, not a claim that it functions as a comprehensive biography.
Does Luhrmann’s archival approach work?
The main question is whether the material feels like more than a collection of preserved performances. Luhrmann’s editing places stage appearances alongside interview sound and other archival images, inviting viewers to encounter Presley through what he did and how he described himself. The film’s value therefore depends less on learning a complete chronology than on whether this sequencing makes the artist feel present.

For longtime fans, the draw may be the opportunity to see and hear archival material arranged around the performance experience. For viewers seeking background on Presley’s life, the film’s concert-oriented focus may leave biographical questions unanswered. TIME reported that the film draws on 59 hours of performance and interview material in its February 20, 2026 review; that is TIME’s reported figure, not a separately confirmed total in the studio description.
In a Spanish-language interview reported by El País, Luhrmann described the film as “no es exactamente un documental ni el vídeo de un concierto, sino un poema en el que Elvis cuenta su historia”—roughly, not exactly a documentary or concert video, but a poem in which Elvis tells his story. That framing captures the film’s interpretive ambition, while the footage itself remains archival.

Who is most likely to enjoy it?
- Choose it for the performance: If seeing Presley command the stage is the main attraction, the film’s concert-centered structure is its defining feature.
- Choose it for archival presentation: Viewers interested in how footage, interviews and recordings can form a portrait may find Luhrmann’s assembly more compelling than a straightforward timeline.
- Look elsewhere for a full biography: If your priority is a systematic account of Presley’s life and career, this film’s emphasis on concert and archival material is a different proposition.
Verdict
EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is best approached as an archival performance film shaped into an artistic portrait, not as a definitive account of Elvis Presley’s life. Its strongest reason to watch is the chance to spend time with Presley onstage and in his own recorded voice; whether the editing adds enough perspective beyond that depends on how much you value the concert experience and archival reinterpretation.
