On May 22, 2025, musician Scott Mescudi, known as Kid Cudi, testified at Sean “Diddy” Combs’s federal trial in Manhattan about an alleged entry into his home in late 2011 and a fire that damaged his Porsche weeks later. Cudi said he suspected Combs was connected to the fire, but his testimony did not establish who set it or prove Combs was responsible.
What Cudi said happened at his home
Cudi testified that he was dating singer Casandra Ventura, known as Cassie, in late 2011. After Combs learned about the relationship, Cudi said, Ventura contacted him and asked him to pick her up.
While Cudi and Ventura were away from his house, Cudi testified, Combs’s assistant Capricorn Clark called and said Combs and an associate were at the home and that she had been forced to go with them. Cudi said he called Combs while driving back. According to the Associated Press’s account of the testimony, Combs told him, “I want to talk to you.”
Cudi testified that Combs was gone by the time he arrived. He found Christmas gifts for his family opened and his dog locked in a bathroom, then called police. On cross-examination, he acknowledged that he had left the door unlocked. Reuters also reported that he said there had been no damage to the house or furniture. What Cudi testified about the Porsche fire
Cudi said that weeks after the home incident, in January 2012, his Porsche 911 convertible was damaged by a fire in his driveway. He testified that his dog-sitter alerted him while he was at a friend’s home. Jurors were shown photographs of the scorched red-leather interior and a hole apparently cut in the car’s fabric roof, according to the Associated Press. Cudi said a Molotov cocktail had been found on the passenger seat.
Cudi told jurors he believed Combs had something to do with the fire. The AP reported that Combs denied involvement when Cudi asked him about the car at a meeting the next day. Cudi also described Combs’s denial as a lie; Reuters quoted him saying, “He was lying.” That was Cudi’s interpretation, not an independent finding.

The testimony and reporting leave important limits on what can be concluded about the fire. Reuters reported that Cudi acknowledged he knew of no witness who placed Combs near the property when the fire occurred and no fingerprint or DNA evidence collected from the car that he knew of. Cudi’s account formed part of the trial narrative about the prosecution’s broader allegations against Combs. At the time Cudi testified, Combs had pleaded not guilty. The testimony described Cudi’s account of the home episode and his belief about the later fire; it should not be read as a jury finding that Combs entered the home or arranged the fire.

On July 2, 2025, the jury acquitted Combs of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking and convicted him on transportation-to-engage-in-prostitution charges, CBS News reported.
