Michael Keaton hosted the October 19, 2024 episode of Saturday Night Live, with Billie Eilish as musical guest. Its most pointed moment came in the cold open: Alec Baldwin returned as Fox News anchor Bret Baier, facing Maya Rudolph as Kamala Harris in a parody of their real interview.
What happened in the cold open?
The sketch drew on Baier’s interview with Harris, making his repeated interruptions the central joke. It also spoofed the interview’s mistaken playback of a response clip from Donald Trump. Baldwin’s Baier introduced himself with the line, “Yes, I do look like someone made a businessman in Minecraft,” while Rudolph’s Harris greeted him: “The pleasure is neither of ours.” Those lines belong to the sketch, not the real interview. James Austin Johnson appeared as Trump, and Dana Carvey played President Joe Biden. The Associated Press reported the sketch’s details and dialogue.
How did Michael Keaton fit the episode?
Keaton hosted for the fourth time. His opening monologue leaned into his association with Beetlejuice, with Mikey Day and Andy Samberg joining him in Beetlejuice costumes. Peacock’s episode recap also identifies “Skydiving” as the season’s first Please Don’t Destroy digital short, featuring Keaton as a skydiving instructor.
Other sketches
- A Halloween cookie-sales sketch.
- A mixed-race romance sketch built around Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister.”
- A Halloween-movie sketch about stunt coordination.
These premises gave the episode a mix of seasonal comedy and character-driven bits, though they did not all make the most of Keaton’s range.

What songs did Billie Eilish perform?
Eilish performed “Birds of a Feather” and “Wildflower,” both from her album Hit Me Hard and Soft. Her brother and the album’s producer, Finneas, performed with her, according to the Los Angeles Times recap.
How did critics assess the episode?
Reviews were mixed rather than unanimous. The Los Angeles Times praised Keaton’s grounding presence and aspects of his performance but argued that the show did not fully use his talents. The Guardian described the episode as a drop-off from the season’s stronger start, while crediting the cold open. Together, those assessments point to the episode’s clearest strengths and limitation: the political parody had an immediate, recognizable target, while some of the broader sketch material offered Keaton less distinctive work.
