Dates and launch formats above come from the distributors’ release information. They describe how the films launched, not necessarily where they can be watched now. Amazon’s 2024 fall film lineup, its Red One streaming announcement, and Netflix’s pages for That Christmas and Carry-On establish these launch details.
What are the movies like?
Red One: a big-scale holiday action comedy
Rather than a conventional cozy Christmas story, Red One puts a rescue mission at the center. Amazon describes it as a Christmas action comedy directed by Jake Kasdan. Dwayne Johnson plays Callum Drift, the North Pole’s Head of Security, alongside Chris Evans as bounty hunter Jack O’Malley. The ensemble also includes Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Wesley Kimmel and J.K. Simmons. Amazon’s listing gives it a PG-13 rating. Its first release was a US theatrical opening on November 15, 2024; Prime Video was a later streaming destination.
That Christmas: animated stories for a family audience
That Christmas adapts Richard Curtis’s trilogy of children’s books into an animated feature. Curtis wrote and executive-produced the film, directed by Simon Otto. Netflix’s synopsis connects several stories involving families, friends, love, loneliness and Santa, making this the animation-centered choice among these three releases. It arrived on Netflix on December 4, 2024. Readers who want the source material can look for Curtis’s That Christmas children’s-book trilogy.

Carry-On: a tense holiday thriller
Carry-On uses Christmas Eve as the setting for an airport suspense story. Netflix’s premise follows a young TSA agent whom a mysterious traveler blackmails over a dangerous package on a flight. It debuted on Netflix on December 13, 2024. Netflix’s wider holiday promotion also featured Black Doves, a Christmas-set mystery and spy thriller series; it is a series, not another film in this movie roundup. Netflix’s 2024 holiday slate covers that broader seasonal lineup.
