Before Super Bowl LX, Daddy Yankee reportedly said he would decline an invitation to perform “Gasolina” with Bad Bunny, explaining that he was focused on a different mission. The game has since taken place: Bad Bunny’s halftime show briefly included “Gasolina,” but Associated Press coverage does not report Daddy Yankee appearing onstage.
What Daddy Yankee reportedly said
In an article published November 7, 2025, Noticias RCN attributed the remarks to Daddy Yankee in a recent podcast interview. The outlet did not name the podcast or provide a recording or transcript in the article, so the comments are best understood as reported speech.
In English: “Not at this moment, because I’m on a different mission right now. Although I respect what Benito is doing today, don’t misunderstand me: he’s an ally and I love him very much. In fact, we spoke yesterday. But I’m on a different mission now, and it’s what I want to represent 100%.” This English wording is a translation of the Spanish quote.
Noticias RCN also reported Daddy Yankee praising Bad Bunny’s performance and its significance for Latino representation. The outlet quoted him saying that, for the first time, someone would sing in Spanish, and calling that beautiful; he also said Bad Bunny’s greatest touchdown was accepting Jesus into his life. The report presents the remarks as praise, alongside the distinction that Daddy Yankee did not want to represent his own current mission through “Gasolina.” Noticias RCN’s November 7, 2025 report.

Was the answer a rejection of Bad Bunny?
Not according to the same report. Daddy Yankee reportedly called Bad Bunny an ally, said he loved him and respected what he was doing, and said they had spoken the previous day. His stated reason was that he was pursuing a different mission and wanted to represent it fully—not that he opposed Bad Bunny or his show.
The response was also conditional on the song. Noticias RCN said Daddy Yankee would be open to discussing a joint appearance if Bad Bunny proposed performing “Sonríele” instead of “Gasolina.” That is a reported willingness to talk, not confirmation that a performance was arranged.

What happened at the Super Bowl
Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime show took place on February 8, 2026. The Associated Press reported that “Gasolina” played briefly during the performance, describing the moment as an acknowledgement of Puerto Rican artists who helped pave the way for Bad Bunny’s global career. AP’s report does not say Daddy Yankee joined him onstage. Hearing the recording in the show and seeing Daddy Yankee perform live are separate claims; the available account establishes the former, not the latter. Released in 2004, “Gasolina” is closely associated with reggaetón’s expansion beyond Puerto Rico and Latin America. A Library of Congress essay posted September 18, 2024, republished scholarship by Petra Rivera-Rideau, an associate professor of American Studies at Wellesley College, and describes the song as helping bring the genre to wider international markets.

The Library essay reports that Daddy Yankee wrote the song with Eddie Dee and that Luny Tunes produced it. It also recounts the historical chart milestones: the album Barrio Fino debuted at number one on Billboard’s Hot Latin chart, while “Gasolina” reached number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100. Those are figures reported in the Library essay as part of the song’s chart history, not a current chart listing. The Library of Congress added “Gasolina” to the National Recording Registry in 2023. Library of Congress essay on “Gasolina”.
That legacy helps explain why the brief use of the track could function as a salute to earlier Puerto Rican artists. It does not change the meaning of Daddy Yankee’s earlier reported answer: his comments concerned whether he would perform the song himself, not whether Bad Bunny could include it.
