Start with “Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur” and “Oh When the Spurs Go Marching In”: both appear among the familiar Spurs team songs listed by Toronto Spurs. A written song list helps you recognize names, but video examples are more useful for picking up a tune and delivery. Spurs songs are part of a changing supporter culture, not a fixed official setlist.
Team songs to recognize
Toronto Spurs’ supporter guide lists these team songs and chants. It is a practical reference, not an official ranking or exhaustive club songbook.
- “Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur” — one of the familiar team songs on the list. FourFourTwo reports that Tottenham’s 1967 FA Cup-winning team recorded “Glory Glory Hallelujah”; that is a distinct historical claim and does not establish the full origin or chronology of the chant sung today.
- “Oh When the Spurs Go Marching In” — a recognizable team song listed by Toronto Spurs.
- “Can’t Smile Without You” — another team song in the supporter guide.
- “A Grand Old Team” — listed among the team songs.
- “Come On You Spurs” — a short team-support chant listed by Toronto Spurs.
- “Tottenham Till I Die” — a team song in the same guide.
Toronto Spurs also separates player chants from team songs. That distinction matters: team songs belong to the broader club repertoire, while player chants are tied to individuals and can change as the squad changes.
For historical context, TopSpurs’ archive has a section titled “The Double Song (1960/61)” and cautions that some lyrics may not be literally factual. That archive label describes its classification; it does not settle the complete history of the present-day chants. Separately, Tottenham describes Danny Blanchflower, captain of the 1961 Double-winning team, as the source of the words “The Game Is About Glory,” which the club says continue to reverberate around Tottenham Hotspur. The club presents this as part of its identity, not as evidence that the phrase is a supporter chant.

Player chants: memorable, but tied to the squad
A club-recorded example comes from the opening of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. In its report on the first Premier League match there, against Crystal Palace on 5 April 2019, Tottenham said the South Stand sang Dele Alli’s song during the warm-up, then all stands joined in. Spurs won 2–0; Son Heung-min scored the first first-team goal at the stadium. Dele said of hearing the song, “It was an unbelievable feeling, a moment I’ll never forget.”
That moment shows how a player chant can spread through a ground; it does not make the song part of a permanent setlist. Supporter-run lists and videos can help identify player songs, but check current examples close to matchday because the relevant players and chants may change.

How to learn the tune and join in
Use a written guide to identify a song, then listen to a video example to hear its tune and delivery. Toronto Spurs presents its list as help for supporters who want to sing along, while South Florida Spurs links to videos of team and player chants. Its examples include “Allez Tottenham,” “Judas,” “Having A Party” and “Got A Son.” These are examples from a supporter resource, not a claim that every chant is current or regularly sung.
- Pick one team song. Begin with a familiar title such as “Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur” or “Oh When the Spurs Go Marching In.”
- Find a video example. Visit South Florida Spurs’ chants and songs page for linked team- and player-chant videos, or use the Toronto Spurs fan chants and songs guide to identify titles.
- Listen for the tune and pacing. A song title alone cannot show pronunciation, melody or when supporters start it; video gives you a better chance to hear those details.
- Learn player songs separately. Treat them as squad-dependent rather than assuming a written list is a current matchday programme.
The Y-word: history, disagreement and the club’s position
Some Spurs chants and supporter language involve the Y-word, a term that can be offensive. Tottenham says supporters adopted it from the late 1970s, initially in response to antisemitic abuse from opposition fans. The club also recognizes that some supporters use it as a sign of unity or identity, while others are uncomfortable, some younger fans may not know the historical context, and there is a growing desire among supporters to reduce or stop its use.

The club says the word can cause offence regardless of context or intention and that it believes it is time to move on from associating it with Tottenham. Its consultation process began toward the end of 2019; after a pause during the pandemic, the club held virtual supporter focus groups. More than 23,000 responses — Tottenham Hotspur, 2019–2022 consultation process. That figure belongs to the consultation process as described on the club’s page; it is not a count attributed solely to 2019. The club’s account explains the historical rationale it describes, but it should not be read as universal agreement among Spurs supporters or as an endorsement that erases present-day harm.
